Lock Up Your Guns And Still Be Liable Bill Moves Forward

04.01.2021

Gun Theft Victim Liability Bill Advances.

                                                                               Fred Girod

HB 2510, which will hold gun owners liable for crimes committed with firearms stolen from them, received a “second reading” today and is now scheduled for a “third reading” tomorrow on the House floor.

“Third reading” is the term used for that part of the process where a bill is actually voted on, on the floor of the House or Senate.

While it is scheduled for a vote tomorrow, that is unlikely.  The House Republicans have slowed down the process of ramming through legislation by requiring that all bills be read in their entirety before being voted on, a process usually waived with consent of the legislators.

As a result, progress on voting on bills has slowed tremendously in the House. And this is a good thing.  So unless something really out of the ordinary happens, the bill will not receive a vote tomorrow, but because it has been scheduled, it will receive a vote at some point.

Given the Democrats supermajority in the House, there is no question the bill will pass.

In addition to holding theft victims liable for the crimes committed with guns stolen from them, the bill requires that your self defense firearms be kept locked up and useless.

The Oregon Democrats have chosen an interesting time to make sure you are defenseless. Violent crime is surging to terrifying highs and the police admit they can’t handle it.

Make no mistake, none of this is an accident.

Once the bill passes in the House, it will go to the Senate where the Senate Republican “leader” has vowed not to walk out to stop this madness.

He and the five other Republicans who stayed behind on the Senate floor, to assure that SB 554 (go to the library go to prison) would pass, insist it would “look bad” for them to walk out, in some cases actually citing Democrats disapproval of a walk out.

It seems like we should not have to point out that Democrats did not elect them, or in almost every case, reelect them, after the last walkout which successfully killed dangerous legislation in the last session. They are also claiming that it would be “impractical” to walk out now when there is so much time left in the session.  This is particularly inane since they did not walk out for the entire session last time, only until their demands were met.(Senator Tim Knopp, who has made a career of staying behind to help the Democrats when others walked out, actually excused his betrayal of gun owners by telling one voter “Independents and Democrats oppose walkouts by 2/3rds or more.”

So the Republicans who refuse to leave, and thereby guarantee passage of extreme anti-gun bills, are now in the business of making excuses instead of protecting your rights.

In emails to voters who question them about their refusal to stand up, they dismiss voters concerns by telling them that they can always spend their own money and time and take the chance that they could repeal these bills by costly ballot measure. They also say “hey we voted against that bill” and ignore that fact that just by being on the floor they guaranteed passage.

While the slow down in place in the House is helping, it is highly unlikely that it will kill any legislation that the Democrats are determined to pass. So the House’s refusal to walk out is every bit as dangerous as the refusal by some Senate Republicans. But at least the House is slowing things down.

On the Senate side, not only are they speeding bills along, but Senate Republican “leader” Fred Girod has actually made motions on the floor himself to speed the process up.

You can still  let the Oregon Republicans know how you feel about their complicity in this outrage by using this link: https://freeroots.com/go/stop-the-attack-on-gun-rights

It’s true that many legislators are now not even looking at your emails so if you prefer to call you can reach the voice mailboxes of House Leader Christine Drazan here 503-986-1439 and Senate Republican Leader Girod here 503-986-1709.

Some folks have received messages back from Girod saying their email was “deleted unread” so a phone call may be a better bet.

The six Republican Senators who sold out gun owners on the vote on SB 554 are listed in this alert. They are all working overtime to cover their tracks, but the fact remains, they came to the floor knowing the bill would pass no matter how they voted, and now they want you to fix the mess they made.

If the majority of the Republican House members also refuse to walk, gun owners will have very little left at the end of this session.

MORE GUN GRABS MOVING

THE FUTURE ACCORDING TO DEMOCRATS

03.30.2021

Today the House held “work sessions” on two anti-gun bills.

The House Judiciary “worked” HB 2543, the bill that will allow the State Police to deny a firearm’s purchase forever with no justification. That’s “forever” with an “F”.

The House “Health” Committee  “worked” HB 2510. This is the bill that will hold gun owners “strictly liable” for crimes committed by the criminals who Oregon continues to release without punishment, using guns they stole from the law abiding.

Under 2510, even if a gun owner locks up a gun, if it’s stolen, the victim is responsible if the thief kills someone.

It’s hard for rational people to make sense of this. But that’s the way Oregon rolls in 2021.

Without explanation. the Democrat Chair of the House Judiciary Committee moved HB 2543 to the Rules Committee “without recommendation.”

The Rules committee does not have the deadlines most other committees have. That means that this bill can be safely kept alive until the very end of the session.

The Democrats have the votes to pass this bill so it’s not clear why they are waiting, but there is no reason to consider this good news.

House Bill 2510 was passed out of committee to the House Floor where it faces certain passage if the House Republicans continue to cooperate with the majority party in these endless attacks on rights, safety, and common sense.

The Oregon Senate, with the pathetic compliance of six Republican Senators, has already passed SB 554 which will make Oregon concealed handgun license holders felons should they go NEAR the public buildings they pay for.

HB 2510 will help ensure that Oregonians will be placed in great jeopardy should they attempt to comply with the Senate Bill 554.

You see, the Senate bill will require that gun owners park far from any government building and lock their self defense guns in their cars. (People without cars are screwed the minute they leave the house.) If a person does comply and lock her gun in a vehicle, and one of Oregon’s many unpunished criminals steals it, the gun owner is responsible for whatever crimes are committed with that gun.

For those of you who are lucky enough to live in parts of the state far from the hellholes of Portland and Salem who might think the thugs who rule the streets have quieted down, think again.

This insanity took place at the State Capitol, this Sunday. Yes, the Capitol has been closed for months and yes there is no one there on Sunday anyway, but the animals still took over and of course, one person trying to protect himself was disarmed by the police who stood by while innocent people were attacked.

We want to thank the six Senators who refused to be part of the sellout on SB 554 by not showing up on the Senate floor for a vote on the bill.

They were:

Senator Kim Thatcher

Senator Art Robinson

Senator Chuck Thomsen

Senator Brian Boquist

Senator Dennis Linthicum and

Senator Dallas Heard

The other six took gun owner’s money, sold them out and now are using their sell out to make excuses and raise more money for themselves.

The Republican House members surrendered before the battle even began by agreeing to vote on rules that would fine them if they walked out. While they can claim they voted “no,” they did so knowing those votes would not make a damn bit of difference and they would lose.  What thinking person shows up to agree to be neutered escapes us. But that will have to be taken up with House Republican “leader” Christine Drazan.

Senate Bill 554 had its first action on the House side today where it was “first read”. This is the first step in setting the bill up for a vote.  If the bill passes on the House side without any changes it will soon be law.

Should the House make any changes it will need to go back to the Senate where, unless there is a change in “leadership” among the Republicans, it will pass again and then become law.

At this time there is no indication that anything will be stopped on the House side either because the House Republicans have showed no willingness to walk out.

Anything can change at anytime. But as of right now, there seems to be no chance that there will be any effort on the part of Republican legislators, (with the exception of the ones listed above) to take steps to protect your rights.

But at least some brave elected officials are willing.

Yamhill County recently moved a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance. We commend them for refusing to be slapped around by the apologists for lawless thugs.

This piece by KGW was clearly intended to attack the ordinance and the commissioners who passed it, but really backfired on the sock puppet delivering it when their own legal expert explained that it would not be so easy to challenge it.

Our deep gratitude goes out to County Commissioners Lindsay Berschauer and Mary Starrett for having the courage to do what so many Republican Legislators would not. (Yamhill County Commissioner Casey Kulia [kullac@co.yamhill.or.us]voted against protecting gun owner’s rights.)

The fight is far from over.  There is still time for the legislators, who gladly took your money to get elected, to stand up. But every passing day makes the fight for our rights to defend our families harder.

This Train Wreck Was Planned.

This Train Wreck Was Planned.
03.27.2021

As you know, this past Thursday, the Oregon Senate passed SB 554.

SB 554 was a direct attack on persons with Oregon Concealed Handgun Licenses. This assault was based on nothing except the Democrat’s blind hatred for gun owners.

Under this bill, persons with concealed handgun licenses will face 5 years in prison for being near a public building with a licensed firearm.

(During the floor session, the proponents of this bill repeatedly misrepresented this fact.)

The Democrats gave no examples of CHL holders in Oregon shooting up libraries or bus shelters. This extreme attack on the rights, and even the freedom of Oregon’s most law abiding citizens, was motivated by nothing more than the “feelings” of liberals whose mental stability is clearly in question.

At the beginning of the floor session, Oregon Firearms Federation was attacked by Republican Senator Bill Hansell for the headline of an email alert we put out the day before.

Here is that alert.  The headline, as anyone listening to the attached audio can see, is 100% accurate and true.

But, after Democrat Senate President Peter Courtney was heard on an open mic saying “I saw Hansell here, they’re gonna get crushed” just before the floor session where the Democrats crushed the Republicans on the SB 554 vote, Hansell came to the floor on Thursday to praise Courtney, discuss their relationship and insist that the comment referred to a sports team.

As you can see in our headline, we never said who Courtney was referring to, so we think the ladies doth protest too much.

Hansell’s fawning lovefest with the Democrat leader was followed by  comments from Democrat Floyd Prozanski who said that our alert was the product of an organization and person (Director Kevin Starrett) who has a “history of misleading people.”

Just to set the record straight on that comment, Prozanski has accused us for years of misleading people. He once sent out a lengthy email claiming we doctored a photo of him to make him look foolish and posted it on our website.  As with everything else Prozanski said, this was a complete and total lie. In fact, Prozanski inadvertently demonstrated how deceitful he is by linking to the photo in question. The link was to a website that is not OFF’s and which OFF neither controlled nor had anything to do with.

At the time, we publicly offered Prozanski $10,000.00 dollars if he could demonstrate that one word of what we had reported was untrue. As you might expect, he never attempted to collect.

Prozanski suffers from his own demons that make him terrified of gun owners.  But for some reason he never stops working to make life easier for criminals.  What motivates his twisted agenda is not hard to speculate about, but people like Hansell have no excuse.

As we have reported, six Republican Senators were on the floor for the vote on SB 554. 5 Republican Senators, and one former Republican (Brian Boquist) were not.

We know, unequivocally, that most of the Senators who were not there, walked out to protest this bill.  The Republicans who were on the floor all voted “no.”  And this is where the sideshow begins.

We have repeatedly noted that the Republicans who were on the floor assisted in the passage of this bill.  Their “no” votes were immaterial, meaningless, theater.

Once that bill came to the floor, it was guaranteed to pass.

The Republicans knew that. Every single one of them. And any one of them that says differently is a liar or a fool.

The Democrats have complete dictatorial control over what passes and what does not. Period. That is the end of the story. Bills do not reach the floor of the Senate unless Senate President Courtney knows he has the votes to pass them.  You can research yourself and see how incredibly rarely a bill is voted down on the floor. And SB 554 was no different.

The six Republicans who showed up on the floor on Wednesday allowed the Democrats to schedule the bill for Thursday simply by showing up. Once the bill was on the floor for a vote, it was going to pass.

And by showing up on Thursday, and once again providing the Democrats a quorum, the six Republicans guaranteed passage of the bill and their “no” votes and comical and pointless procedural moves to slow it down meant nothing.  Every single objection they raised was trashed immediately by the majority as they knew it would be.

That was all a sideshow for the ever failing cameras so they could go back to the gun owners in their districts and boast about all they did to “protect gun rights.” In some cases the charade was a success. OFF received numerous emails saying we were wrong about the vote. Because they heard from these brave Republicans and by God, they voted “no!”

Of course they did. Because anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes in the Senate knows how these things go, and know a vote against a bill has no bearing on the outcome. (Ok maybe newly elected Dick Anderson doesn’t know anything, but we’re guessing someone clued him in.)

The Republicans had one option to kill this bill and prevent the Democrats from placing you at risk for prison time. And that was to walk out and deny quorum, a lawful, constitutional tactic that was used in the past to stop the Democrat’s radical and hate filled agenda.  They all knew that, and six Senators stayed away.  The others remained, gave a meaningless  “no” vote, assisted Democrats in their agenda …and then ginned up the spin machine.

Senator Tim Knopp told people who wrote to him that he took a “leadership role” in fighting the bill.  This is the same person who stayed behind to help the Democrats get a quorum when Republicans walked out last time and successfully killed these kinds of bills.  Then Knopp told people that he had been “asked to stay behind to monitor things.” Anyone who believes that should talk to the folks who were in charge during the successful walk out.

For a moment of entertainment, have a look at this video of Senator Lynn Findley “explaining” the important reasons he folded and let the Democrats screw gun owners.

Findley is assuming all the voters in his district are rubes who have no grasp on how things actually work.

After telling viewers what a big supporter of gun rights he is, he says there are “significant fines” associated with SB 554, somehow failing to mention the 5 years in prison part.

He then claims to have “made progress” on the bill and points out it has no emergency clause, which means it can be challenged “in the initiative process.”

He then shifts gears and talks about all the amendments and issues they planned to bring up to give the “opponents , if they choose to litigate, more ammunition in their litigation.”

It’s not clear if Findley is using the term “litigation” to refer to a ballot measure or if he is implying the law, once passed, can be challenged in court.  We see exactly zero basis for challenging the law in court, and all the amendments and meaningless procedural moves in the world would have no effect on a ballot measure.

So exactly what he is talking about is unclear. But there are a couple of take aways from his comments.

In an email to unhappy gun owners, Findley wrote “…my Republican colleagues and I used every tool we had at our disposal to prevent this bill from passing as it is currently written.”

But his discussion of a ballot measure to reverse the bill  and all they would do to provide “ammunition” make it clear that he understood the bill’s passage was a foregone conclusion.

Other turncoat Senators have also suggested that if the voters were unhappy with their sellout they could simply do a ballot measure to reverse it.

And while this is technically correct, what Findley and the others don’t mention is that gun owners will also have to mount extremely expensive ballot measures to undo the other gun control bills that the Republicans are going to let pass including:

Mandatory Lock Ups

Endless Delays  and

A revocation of preemption which will have the same effect as SB 554 (and more) even if 554 is defeated at the ballot box.

Also not mentioned by any of them that we know of, will be the costly battle to stop the gun control ballot measures being filed by the well funded anti-gun extremists even now.

So far, none of the Senators who showed up and allowed this bill to pass have offered to contribute any funds from their own PACs to mount these battles.

As of this writing Findley has over $88,000.00 in his PAC.

Knopp has over $13,000.00

Hansell has almost $19,000.00

Anderson has almost $40,000.00

Bill Kennemer has over $33,000.00 in his old House Pac. Which is interesting, because Kennemer did not even run for his Senate seat. He was appointed after Senator Alan Olsen resigned.

Senator Fred Girod, the “leader” of the Republicans who stayed and helped this bill pass has almost $300,000.00 in his PAC and the “Leadership Fund,” a PAC he controls that is supposed to benefit all Senate Republicans, has almost $90,000.00.

All of these people were the beneficiaries of money donated by gun owners.

And by the way, the “Leadership Fund” has sent out numerous fund raising emails out using the gun control bills as reason to send them money.

In them, they announced, with a straight face, their intention to “send a petition” to the Democrats to make them stop attacking our rights.  (And please chip in  20 bucks.)  Frankly, in the face of their willingness to hang gun owners out to dry, this is nothing short of pathetic.

But surely all these good folks will be eager to help fund the insanely expensive battles that their actions made necessary right?

Amazingly, on Saturday, Findley sent out a fundraiser asking for more money because of the loss he helped engineer. In it he said : I’ve never run from a fight before, and I won’t run from this one. I will continue to fight the supermajority’s agenda to take away our rights. Can I count on you to join me in this fight?”

In fact, running from the fight is exactly what all 6 did.

In what can only be considered a bizarre recreation of reality, Findley said :

“My Republican colleagues and I proposed common-sense, data-driven approaches that would protect Oregonians’ constitutional rights and enhance public safety. It is unbelievable that the supermajority wasn’t interested in the facts and instead, is clearly determined to pursue a political agenda at the expense of our rights.”

In what alternate universe do rational Republicans believe that the controlling party is interested in facts?  Really Lynn, you find this “unbelievable?”

Findley went on : “I cannot neglect the need to fight these fights too. Over 140,000 Oregonians are counting on me to show up for all the issues in Salem and that’s what I have sworn to do—but I need you with me.”

Only the most out of touch think “showing up” for certain defeats is the answer to what even Findley calls a train wreck.

In spite of all the nonsense and posturing, these 6 knew that showing up on the Senate floor on Wednesday and Thursday was the beginning of the end for gun rights in Oregon.

It’s interesting to note that the legislative website listed SB 554 as scheduled for action on the House side hours before a vote was even taken on the Senate side.  Could this be one more technical screw up by the same folks who have locked you out of the process or was it simply understood by all parties that passage was a foregone conclusion?

The Oregon Republican Party has some new leadership. We can only hope that after the last few years of miserable performance, the new blood will be able to turn around this disgraceful mess. We wish them well and they have our support.

The Republican Senate Caucus has no leadership.  Fred Girod has proven he is willing to throw his supporters to the dogs rather than take a courageous stand and is leading the other 5 down this same path to disaster.

The reality is, nothing good is going to happen as long as someone who is happy to take your money but not the least bit interested in protecting your rights is in “leadership.”

SB 554 now goes over to the House.  The House Republicans under Christine Drazan have indicated they cannot walk out because they face $500.00 per day fines if they do so. However, that rule was adopted by a vote. A vote the House Republicans participated in knowing that rule would be included and knowing that they did not have the votes to stop it.

Agreeing to vote on that rule created a perfect excuse for them to take the easy way out. Numerous other bills, as mentioned above, are moving on the House side.  If the House Republicans don’t take a stand, and the leadership of the Senate Republicans does not change, it’s doubtful that there will be much left to save at the end of this session.

* In an email today, received shortly after this alert was posted, and unrelated to this post, Senator Brian Boquist said:

The above six GOP registered Senators did make several SB 554 procedural motions for the record, but in sixteen years in the legislature, I have never seen Democrats break ranks to support a procedural motion.  Remember, the super-majority registered Democrats have 18 votes while the minority has 6 to 12 votes.

Bills must be stopped before they go to the Floor of the State Senate as no real debate exists.  The Senate President controls 100% of the process, there is no republic or democracy, thus only bills with Democrat majority votes are sent to the Senate Floor.  Contact your State Senator above with your request to support the People not the government that has been controlled by Democrats for four decades.

Ironically on Wednesday, the day before the above bills passed, the Democrat Senate President sent out forms to Republican State Senators asking them if they wanted federal rescue money for their districts or projects in their districts with borrowed bond money.  The later project money is processed through the Capital Construction Subcommittee chaired by the Republican Caucus Leader under the direction of the Democrat Senate President.

6 Republicans Help Pass Law To Send Gun Owners To Prison.

03.25.2021

Today, the six Senate Republicans who aided passage of SB 554 yesterday, went all the way and helped Democrats pass the bill on the floor.

Republican Senator Bill Hansell, one of the “gang of six” read the headline from our previous alert on the floor,  and claimed that Senator Courtney was talking about a “sports team” when he said on a hot mic “they’re gonna get crushed.”  He called OFF “despicable” and was joined in that assessment by Senator Floyd Prozanski.  For the record, here is exactly what the headline said:

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

I see Hansell out here, they’re gonna get crushed.”

Senate President Peter Courtney in an unintentional  “hot mic” moment at the start of today’s Senate Floor session.

We don’t know to whom he was referring.  But it sure wasn’t Democrats.

______________________________________________________________________________
That was the 100% true and accurate headline that Hansell claimed was false and despicable. The six Republicans then remained on the floor to ensure the Democrats had the quorum they needed to ram through this dangerous and bigoted bill on the law abiding CHL holders of Oregon.

As you know the public has been locked out of the building and has no input into these floor sessions. The only access the people have to these proceedings is a video feed that was shut off at a critical time in the process. The legislative reporting system actually reported that bill had passed hours before the vote was held and showed it being “carried” by a Senator who not only opposed the bill, but was not even on the floor for the vote. The House already showed the bill being scheduled before the bill had even been voted for on the Senate floor.

The bill now goes to the House Floor where the Democrats also have a super majority. At this point, the House Republicans, having agreed to a rule that fines them if they walk off the floor, are unlikely to make any effort to stop the bill.

There are numerous other anti-gun bills moving through the legislature.

The following 6 Republican Senators have now all but guaranteed that CHL holders who go too close to a public building will face 5 years in prison.

They’re Gonna Get Crushed

03.24.2021

I see Hansell out here, they’re gonna get crushed.”

Senate President Peter Courtney in an unintentional  “hot mic” moment at the start of today’s Senate Floor session.

We don’t know to whom he was referring.  But it sure wasn’t Democrats.

These are the Senators who helped pass SB 554:

Fred Girod 503-986-1709
Bill Hansell 503-986-1729
Lynn Findley 503-986-1730
Dick Anderson 503-986-1705
Bill Kennemer 503-986-1720
Tim Knopp
503-986-1727

Today, 6 Senate Republicans, shown above, joined with Senate Democrats to move forward SB 554, a bill that will send concealed handgun license holders to prison for 5 years if they dare travel close to a government owned building.

All 6 Republicans remained on the Senate floor to allow a “second reading” of the bill which was the final step needed to prepare it for a vote tomorrow.

This means the bill will almost certainly be voted on, and passed, tomorrow. If, in the very unlikely event that anything were to prevent the bill from being voted on tomorrow, it will certainly be voted on at the next opportunity.

Republican “Leader” Fred Girod further assisted the Democrats by making a successful motion to block the full reading of bills so the Democrats could speed up their agenda.

That is how these Senators, who asked for the votes and money of gun owners paid them back.

It’s a good signal that every deranged bill the Democrats are ramming through will be passed because of the cowardice of these 6 sellouts.

Where we go from here remains to be seen. Since these six senators joined the radical left to push this bigoted and dangerous legislation, the bill will go from the Senate, after the final vote, to the House, where leader Christine Drazan has indicated that the House too, will roll over and sell out gun owners. Much like Senator Girod, Representative Drazan came to us asking for money to help elect Republicans.  Now after receiving that help, Drazan too paid you back by refusing to walk out of this outrageous attack on your rights.

The following Republican Senators were not on the floor today and were not part of this disgraceful sell out.

Kim Thatcher

Brian Boquist

Dallas Heard

Art Robinson

Chuck Thomsen

Dennis Linthicum

They are to  be commended for showing the principle Girod and the others have walked away from.

Meanwhile the list of people and organizations who requested that the Republicans protect their rights has grown. And no doubt grown far less patient.

Stopping Satan’s Steamroller.

Stopping Satan’s Steamroller.

The clock is ticking. Though not officially posted, numerous knowledgeable people have informed us that SB 554 will be voted on this Thursday.*UPDATE. THE BILL HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY POSTED FOR VOTE ON THURSDAY MARCH 25.

This is the bigoted, hate driven bill that seeks to send you to prison for driving too close to any public building that has  been declared “off limits”  to law abiding, licensed, gun owners.

Make no mistake, there is nothing in this bill that addresses criminals. This is simply a way for the hateful Democrats to punish law abiding Oregonians for no other reason than they can.

Imagine if a local government in Oregon decided to imprison black people for driving by a library. Imagine if a municipality decided that anyone with a disability would go to prison for 5 years because they walked past a city hall.  This is exactly what the Democrats have in mind for gun owners who submitted to the Constitutionally questionable practice of applying for and receiving a concealed handgun license and “proving” their qualifications.

Now the Oregon Democrats want to send those people to prison while at the same time doing all they can to comfort and support looters, rioters, drug dealers and pimps.

But what makes this far worse is that many Oregon Republicans are going along for the ride.

ALL of these evil bills would come to a grinding halt if the Republicans simply did what they were elected to do and STOP participating in this demented game.

Denial of quorum is not only legal and constitutional, it is a tactic that has been amazingly successful in the past and one which Republicans were rewarded for with reelection and added seats.  But now the “leaders” of the House and Senate Republicans are declaring an unconditional surrender, your rights be damned.  Happy to take your votes and donations, they are now saying it will be “too difficult” to do the one thing that might prevent Oregon from becoming an unlivable hell hole.

Now, groups from across the state, and representing many different issues, have come together to demand that the Republicans do their job and protect our rights. The list of signers is growing and will be added to and updated.  We are asking that you add your voice to this effort by calling Senate Republican Leader Fred Girod and House Republican Leader Christine Drazan and remind them that there will be exactly no reason for you to support them in the future if they don’t protect your rights and your children’s future now.

They will have a long list of excuses. “It’s too hard”. “It’s too expensive.”  “The media will say bad things about us.”  Tough.  If Oregonians are being punished because their guns were stolen, or if they drove too close to a DMV, if their property taxes skyrocket, if they are prohibited from putting fuel in their trucks, they are not going to have time to be concerned about  the minor inconvenience of legislators STAYING HOME.

There are a number of Republican Senators who are prepared to walk out this week should the bill be officially scheduled.  The rest need marching orders from Fred Girod.*UPDATE. THE BILL HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY POSTED FOR VOTE ON THURSDAY MARCH 25.

Please call him NOW and tell him to get the others to join the walkout.  No excuses.

Senator Fred Girod. 503-986-1709

Representative Christine Drazan. 503-986-1439

Democrats Are Going For Everthing.

PRO CRIMINAL DEMOCRATS WANT IT ALL

                                                     House Rep Brian Clem

House Rep Brian Clem, who used to ooze over to pro-gun lobbyists in House Gallery and apologize for voting against gun rights with the explanation that he “had to do what he was told by the speaker” is now pushing for a complete elimination of Oregon’s preemption statute.

The goal is to create an incomprehensible patchwork of laws and regulations with the intention of entrapping as many (formally) law abiding gun owners as possible.

His brain child, HB 3005, repeals Oregon’s law that allows only the State Legislature to write most gun laws. That bill is now scheduled for a hearing on April 6th and a work session on April 13th.  Both will be in the House Judiciary Committee.

See all bill info here.

It’s this kind of vindictive legislation that prompted Yamhill County to, today, pass a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance to stand in the way of the Democrat hate machine. We are grateful for the two County Commissioners who got this done, Mary Starrett and Lindsay Berschauer. Commissioner Casey Kulla voted against protecting your rights. (kullac@co.yamhill.or.us)

Of course, Clem and the Democrats may get a surprise if they are successful with this attempt to stick it to gun owners.  The entire state is not as twisted as some western counties and they may just pass a few gun laws that will cause excessive bed wetting by the left.

The Democrats are in a feeding frenzy and they are going for all the marbles. There is one, and only one thing that can stop them. That would be for the Republicans to say “no more.”  By simply not showing up, this entire freak show comes to a halt. If the Republicans do not stand up and walk out when these bills are on the floor, gun rights in Oregon are done. It’s as simple as that.

We have bills in both the House and Senate that will eviscerate gun ownership and self defense in Oregon. At the same time, violence is out of control in our cities and criminals are being rewarded by the majority party.

There is little reason to reach out to Democrats. They are just doing what leftist’s do. You cannot really blame a scorpion for biting you.  However, gun owners, with their votes and contributions, have supported Republican candidates. They were rewarded last time they walked out with reelection and an increase in seats.

Now it’s their responsibility to stand up for us.

The Senate Republican Leader is Fred Girod. https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/girod

The House Republican Leader is Christine Drazan. https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/drazan

Please contact them. Your message does not need to be long, it does not need to be complicated and it does not need to repeat all the facts that are already well known. Simply tell them, “Gun owners supported you. Now it’s your turn. Walk out.”

If you decide to either send in written testimony or if you want to try to testify live on HB 3005, info for doing that follows.

The electronic system for testifying in person is a massive failure. Furthermore, although opponents of gun control bills always outnumber the supporters, the anti-rights extremists always seem to get far more opportunities to speak.  But what the heck, it’s worth a try.

Info for signing up to testify “in person” or with written testimony follows.

Submit written testimony on a bill or topic scheduled for a public hearing:

• Electronic: https://olis.oregonlegislature.gov/liz/2021R1/Testimony/HJUD

• Mail: House Committee on Judiciary, 900 Court Street NE, Room 453, Salem, OR 97301

Written testimony may be submitted up to 24 hours after the meeting start time.

Register to testify live remotely:

• Registration is required to testify by phone or video.

• Register online: https://survey.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_blWKgvBopoSNdYO

You will see a confirmation screen and be sent an email with information on how to join the

meeting. If you do not, contact the committee assistant.

Another Way To Send You To Prison

And Now, Ghost Guns

03.16.2021

With deadlines for destroying gun rights in Oregon closing in, the Oregon Democrats have stepped up their attacks.

Next on the list of ways to send you to prison?  The world famous “ghost guns”.

On March 25th at 8am, Floyd Prozanski and the Senate Judiciary Committee will be hearing SB 396, a bill to ban “undetectable” and “untraceable” firearms and firearm parts.

Anyone with the even a passing knowledge of firearms will see that the language in this bill could have been improved had it been crafted by meth addicted gerbils, but it is not our job (nor should it be yours) to pass on to these mental midgets all that makes no sense in this new effort to fill our prisons with good Oregonians while continuing to reward those who burn buildings and throw firebombs at police.

A quick review of the bill will demonstrate that it is intended to punish people who obey the law.

As the Democrats continue to do all they can to destroy the state, the question still remains to be answered…  Will the Oregon Republicans say “no” and end this lunacy or not?

If the Oregon Republicans continue to show up for floor sessions, they do so knowing that many of the people who voted for them could soon be going to prison as felons.

To be perfectly clear, the Democrats have the votes to do this, and ban diesel fuel and legalize pimping and let drug felons be teachers. And yes, those are all bills they are working on in addition to protecting rioters and eliminating school resource officers while making sure no one can protect themselves or kids in schools. The Democrats WANT people to die. You simply cannot explain this any other way.

You as a voter in Oregon are NOT allowed in the building to testify against any of these bills. While you may attempt to upload written testimony, that system has been failing. And while you may try to sign up to testify “in person” remotely, our reviews of people who have signed up to testify on gun control bills indicate that while most people who sign up are opposed, they rarely get to speak. Somehow the ever present technical glitches mostly effect gun owners and not gun grabbers.  Anyone can verify this.

Yesterday the system failed completely.

If you want to attempt to testify against this bill, you can try using this link,

 https://survey.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eqCYCbMFRYqLOjY

It may or may not work.

After filling in the required boxes, click on the boxes next to  SB 396.  The boxes ask if you want to testify for or against. At this point knowing what we do about how things have been run, you probably have a better chance of being allowed  to testify if you say you support this idiocy.

You can attempt to upload written testimony here https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2021R1/Testimony/SJD110?meetingDate=2021-03-25-08-00

Meanwhile, as our rights, and possibly even our ability to stay out of prison, are slipping away, the Republicans are responding with fund raisers that ask you to sign a petition to the Democrats who are burning down the state. We’ll go way out on a limb and predict that won’t have a major effect.

Every single Republican serving in the legislature knew before this session started that they would not have the votes to block the Democrats scorched earth policy and the only way they could save this state would be to deny quorum.

If they don’t, your future in Oregon will be very grim.

LET IT BURN

LET IT BURN

03.15.2021

With Portland firmly under the control of violent anarchists (with the full approval of Oregon’s House Speaker)Oregon Democrats are moving full speed ahead on their plans to prevent non criminals from defending themselves.

House Bill 2543, which will allow the Oregon State Police to deny a firearm’s transfer forever, with no explanation or justification, is now a step closer to becoming law.

The bill is scheduled for a “work session” on March 23 at 1PM in the House Judiciary Committee.

Work sessions are where bills are amended and voted out of committee onto the House Floor.  Currently there are no amendments to the bill and the Republicans on the committee have exactly nothing to say about its progress.

House Republicans voluntarily gave up any leverage they might have had when they tacitly agreed to rules that would fine them $500.00 a day for exercising their right not to participate in this assault on your rights and common sense.

As with all anti-gun bills, testimony on HB 2543 was overwhelmingly against the bill.  This clearly convinced the Democrats to move it forward.

If this bill passes,  the one small, rarely used, safeguard Oregonians had when the State Police simply did not do their job will be stripped way. And as Oregon, and our cities in particular, become ever more perilous, law abiding Oregonians who failed to plan well in advance will be at the mercy of the mobs that rule the streets. (Current law allows a dealer to transfer a firearm after three business days if the OSP does not complete, or even start, a background check.)

While House Republicans can still walk away from this freak show, they have shown no inclination to do so, instead whining about the fines they agreed to.

Of course, with a virus so deadly and widespread that our Capitol has to be locked down and boarded up to keep our elected representatives safe from us, the unwashed masses, it would seem the House Republicans still could have understandable concerns about their health and call in sick. But at this point it appears they would prefer to watch the state dissolve into a morass of leftist insanity.

There is still time for the Republicans put your future and the future of your kids ahead of their personal comfort. If you live in a district with a Republican House Rep, please call or email them and remind them what you hired them to do.  Remind them that every single one of them who walked out last time got reelected. We call that a “clue.”

If you are unsure of what district you live in, use this link to find out.

Contact info for Oregon Republican House reps is here.

We know there are rock solid Republican House Reps who still have your best interest at heart.  But there are also some who badly need to be reminded how little you will need them in the future if they show up for votes on gun grabbing bills and thereby guarantee that those dangerous attacks on you and your family pass.

Gun Grabbers Double Down

03.11.2021

Today the House Committee on Health Care heard HB2510, a bill to hold gun owners liable for the violent crimes of thieves.

As expected, the deck was strongly stacked in favor of gun grabbers and the technical failures that have become the hallmark of Oregon Legislative hearings seemed to occur almost exclusively when opponents of the bill were attempting to testify.

One of the strangest testimonies came from a Washington County Commissioner Pam Treece who supported the bill because she had been attacked by a rapist with a gun, the implication being that violent rapists are dissuaded by trigger lock laws.

The usual suspects trotted out the usual disproven cliches. One supporter of eliminating self defense claimed to be a teacher who, in an effort to demonstrate that gun owners don’t understand the 2nd Amendment, made the laughable and ignorant assertion that the word “regulate”  in that amendment referred to guns. (Another reason to want to keep your kids out of schools.)

A long time anti-rights activist testified against the bill because it did not punish gun owners harshly enough.

Meanwhile, Oregon Senate Democrats have doubled down and introduced a rule change to punish Senate Republicans should they refuse to participate in these attacks.

The rule would fine any Senator who walked away from this dangerous charade $151.00 every day they were not present to help the Democrats ram through dangerous and rights destroying legislation.

This rule could be voted on as early as next week.

If the Senate Republicans are on the floor when this rule is voted on, their ability to stop any outrageous legislation will be effectively ended. It’s not complicated.

House Republicans already made this mistake and were on the floor when a similar rule was passed in that chamber.  That is now being used as an excuse for their unwillingness to walk out.

If the Senate Republicans make the same mistake, there will be nothing to prevent the Democrats from ramming through extreme restrictions on gun rights along with a vast host of other demented ideas like banning diesel fuel and legalizing pimping.

So now, the future of gun rights in Oregon is in the hands of one person. That is Senate Republican Leader Fred Girod.  Girod has made no secret of his reluctance to stand up to the Democrats and lead a walkout even though other Republican Senators are determined to fight back.

It is imperative that he hear from you loud and clear.  Tell Fred that if the Republicans are on the floor for a vote on the rule change by the Democrats, you understand that he just handed your rights away to the far left.

Please call Girod at 503-986-1709  and email him here Sen.FredGirod@oregonlegislature.gov

Oregonians are very close to losing everything. It’s time to remind the Republicans what they were elected to do.

Gun Lock Down Reminder

03.08.2021

Reminder. Lock Up Bill Coming.

As we told you, HB 2510, a bill to require you to lock up your firearms and hold you liable if they are stolen and used in a crime, is scheduled for a hearing this Thursday, March 11.

The hearing will be held by the House Health Committee because now your desire to be able to protect yourself from sky rocketing crime is a “health crisis.”

The bill makes you liable for crimes committed by someone you have lawfully transferred a gun to for two years after the transfer unless you can somehow prove you transferred the gun with a trigger lock installed, two years after the transfer!

Under the bill, it will be unlawful to have a gun in your home if it is not inaccessible, if one of your upstairs windows is unlocked or one of your children is home.

If you lock the gun with an easily defeated trigger or cable lock, and it’s POSSIBLE to defeat the lock, you will be in violation.

We need not explain how truly demented this is.

For a preview of what to expect on Thursday, tune into the Health Care Committee tomorrow for an “Informational Hearing” (invited testimony only of course)  on “Gun Violence: a Public Health Crisis”.

We are going to go way out on a limb here and predict the deck will be stacked. The “informational” part of the hearing is scheduled for 3.35 but the committee can change that time whenever they want with no advanced warning. The invitees have not yet been made public.*

If you want to watch the “informational hearing”, you can click on this link tomorrow, and go to 3/9/2021 on the right side of the page. When the committee is ready to meet there will be a camera icon you can click on to enjoy the show. The committee’s meeting starts at 3.15PM

The Democrats have numerous bills to reward criminals including one to allow convicted drug dealers to teach in our schools. They are also hoping to legalize pimping. At the same time, they have declared war on legitimate gun owners. While violent criminals are unchecked in our cities, Oregon Democrats want to make sure you can’t protect yourself and your family.

And as of now, the Oregon Republicans have shown no willingness to stand up to them. Contact the leaders of the Oregon Senate and House Republicans and remind them what they were hired to do.  https://freeroots.com/go/stop-the-attack-on-gun-rights

Release Thugs. Lock Up Guns.

03.04.2021

TAKE ACTION NOW.  https://freeroots.com/go/stop-the-lunacy

While Oregon Democrats continue to promote legislation to empower criminals and violent crime skyrockets in Portland, the Oregon House Committee On Health Care has scheduled a hearing to hear HB 2510, a bill to lock up… your firearms.

As in previous attempts to render firearms useless for self defense, the bill punishes gun owners who are victims of theft and contains not one single word about penalties for gun thieves.

While life in Oregon, especially our cities, becomes increasingly perilous, Oregon Democrats are working overtime to make sure you and your family are defenseless.

And rest assured, these actions are not the result of ignorance.  Oregon Democrats are pushing bills to make criminals out of law abiding gun owners while neutering the police, so this bill is just one more effort to make sure that thugs are protected while you and your family are robbed of any means of protecting yourselves.

The bill is currently scheduled for March 11 at 3.15 PM. To sign up to testify against this bill use this link.https://survey.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_00ciSJbLrYjjN3M

If you experience problems (as many do) contact Adrienne.Cooke@oregonlegislature.gov or call (503)986-1485

To submit written testimony use this link https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2021R1/Testimony/HHC

Use the drop down menus to pick “House Committee on Health Care “ and “3/11/2021 3.15PM”

Contact info for all members of this committee can be found here. https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2021R1/Committees/HHC/Overview.  We strongly urge you to write AND call. Over and over.  If you get voice mail, leave messages.

This bill is sheer lunacy at a time when Oregon is seeing unprecedented spikes in violent crime and a complete inability of police to address it. Meanwhile, looters and rioters are routinely being returned to our streets and facing no prosecutions.

If you want to have any chance of living safely in this state, please take action. The lives you save may be your kid’s.

And while Oregon Democrats are working overtime to ensure you are defenseless against the thugs they protect, they are working on such important legislation as legalizing pimping , banning diesel fuel. and outlawing ropes with loops at the end.

But hey, at least when gun owners are all in prison they’ll be able to register to vote.

Clearly, Oregon is at a crossroads. Quite simply, this state will be completely unlivable if Oregon Republicans don’t do something.

While we have serious battles in both Houses, right now our best chance is to get Oregon Republican Senators to refuse to participate in this demented charade.

The leader of the Oregon Republican Senators has made it clear he is NOT interested in walking out. He’d prefer to watch Oregon disintegrate than stand up to the lunacy the Democrats are shoving down our throats.  But we have reason to believe other Republican Senators are willing to take a stand.  But they need to hear from you loud and clear.

If you prefer to contact them one by one with personal messages their contact information is here.https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/senate/Pages/senatorsRepublicans.aspx

Senator Brian Boquist has quit the Republican Party but may consider walking out with them if they have the courage to do so.

His contact info is here.  https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/senate/Pages/senatorsIndependents.aspx

Or you can use this tool to send a message to all Republican Senators and Brian Boquist. https://freeroots.com/go/stop-the-lunacy

Feel free to alter the subject line and text if you choose. It is critical that we convince the Oregon Republican Senators to stand up for us. The alternative is unthinkable.

Thank you for your tireless activism.

Endless Delay Bill Scheduled For Additional Hearing

HB 2543, the “endless delay” bill is scheduled for an additional hearing on March 4th at 1pm in the House Judiciary Committee.

As we have told you, this bill will allow the State Police to deny a firearms purchase forever, with no justification and no consequences.

The Oregon State Police have testified that there are background checks that were requested last year that they have not even started to process.

This bill is designed to create one more roadblock to lawful firearm’s purchases.  If you want to submit testimony in opposition to the bill, the legislature has made it as complicated as possible. So to save time we have included links and information on how to do this.

If you want to upload written testimony, use this link https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2021R1/Testimony/HJUD and pick the “House Judiciary Committee” and “3/4/2021” from the drop down menus. Then click on HB 2543.

Making Gun Owners Felons Bill Moves Forward

02.25.2021

Democrats Pass Go To Library Go To Prison Bill Out Of Committee

Today the Democrats passed SB 554, the “go to the library go to prison” bill, out of committee on a party line vote.

The bill was amended with the “dash 10” amendment.

That amendment removes parking garages from the places where a CHL holder can be arrested for having a lawfully carried firearm. It changes the language in the bill, so while in the original bill you could be charged with a felony just by being near an airport, now you would have to go into the terminal to face felony charges.

Senator Floyd Prozanski claimed that this change addressed the “misinformation” that was being spread about the original bill and the risk of being arrested near the airport. In fact, once again, Prozanski was using his typical misdirection because that is exactly what the bill did.

Before you think that exempting parking lots is a step forward, consider that under the amended bill you would be forced to leave an unprotected firearm in your car, and now be totally defenseless in locations that are known crime magnets. Needless to say, anyone using the mass transit Democrats like to push, is totally out of luck. We won’t even get into those who travel by electric scooter.

And of course, you still face felony charges should you dare to enter an airport terminal to assist someone coming from or going to a flight or entering any school or public building. Buildings you own and pay for.

Throughout the hearing Democrats made totally unsubstantiated claims and reference to reports that they implied backed up the notion that CHL holders are dangerous, while either not providing any data or by referencing reports that were created  by rabid anti-gunners like Tom Ridge.

Senator James Manning’s bizarre and incoherent comments included insults against CHL holders, the completely unfounded claim that a person who shot up a Eugene school was a CHL holder* and the absurd assertion that most CHL holders approved of having their rights taken away under this bill.  Manning might want to take a moment out of his abrasive and ignorant slams on CHL holders to look at the sign up sheet for testimony on the bill.

* Since this alert was posted we have received a copy of a newspaper article stating that the shooter in this event had a CHL. We have no way of confirming this since CHL records are not public and under most circumstances cannot be revealed. However, even if the story is accurate, it’s clear that the proposed legislation would have had no effect on the incident and Manning’s blanket condemnation of CHL holders is still outrageous. To those who think this should disqualify CHL holders from being armed, please click here.

Senate Democrats put out this press release also insulting CHL holders.

Prozanski wrapped up the work session by accusing the Republicans of voting no on the bill because they would “profit” from voting no.

This twisted and insulting comment was based on an email that the “Leadership Fund” a Republican PAC, sent out.  The email fundraiser included these comments:

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

Senate Bill 554 is one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation introduced by Liberal Democrats to make its way to the Senate in years.

 If passed, this bill will:

Ban concealed carry permit owners from bringing a firearm on public property

Double the cost to apply and renew your concealed handgun license AND

Ban the possession of pepper spray and stun guns

Have the Democrats been on vacation? What makes them think this is a GOOD IDEA with all the violence and looting we’ve seen in the last year?

Oregon Republicans have had enough – that’s why we’re taking action.

 _____________________________________________________________________

Oddly the email noted that the “action” the Republicans wanted to take was a “petition” to the Democrats.  While totally pointless, “petitions” are a common device in fundraising efforts. But anyone who knows the three Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, (Kim Thatcher, Dennis Linthicum and Dallas Heard) knows that they are totally committed to gun rights and that Prozanski’s attack was self serving garbage.

Which brings us to our next step.  This bill now goes to the floor. The Senate is controlled by a super majority of Democrats, many of whom are sponsors of this bill.

Up until today the Republican Leadership had not expressed any interest in walking out to stop these dangerous bills. Then today they denied quorum to stop progress on Democrat legislation.

They have NOT included gun bills in their reason for the walk out.

Rest assured, if this bill passes CHL holders will face felony charges at every school, library and bus shelter, and the fact that for 30 years CHL holders have demonstrated themselves to be the most law-abiding Oregonians won’t matter.

The Democrats have shown by this, and so many other bills, that they are determined to attack law abiding gun owners while empowering rioters, looters and common criminals.

If the Senate Republicans allow this bill to pass on the Senate floor, law abiding gun owners, and in fact all Oregonians, will be at greater risk whenever they leave their homes.  And while people who live in parts of the state with rational local leaders may choose not to impose these regulations, people travel. Today’s quorum refusal was a good first step.

The ball is now in the court of the Senate Republicans.  Oregonians have turned out in mass to oppose this bill. Most of them were not even allowed to voice that opposition.

Please contact the Oregon Senate Republicans and Senator Brian Boquist, who recently left the Republican Party to become an independent, and remind them that your freedom and safety is in their hands.  Ask them to walk out on any vote on SB 554.

Let’s Turn The Tables.

02.24.2021

Tomorrow, the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on SB 554, a bill to strip law abiding citizens of their rights to self defense virtually anywhere.

If the bill passes out of committee as expected, we will have to do all we can to fight it on the floor of the Senate, and tomorrow we’ll provide you with an update on that battle.

Right now however, I’d like to ask you to help our friends in Yamhill County where tomorrow they will be considering a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance to protect not only residents of Yamhill, but anyone who visits there.

Fashioned after successful ordinances in other counties, their SASO simply says that the county will not spend money or police manpower arresting law abiding gun owners whose only crime is being the target of leftists in Portland.

Would you please send a short note of support for the Yamhill County SASO to the Yamhill County Board of Commissioners?

You can email them directly here, bocinfo@co.yamhill.or.us or use the FREEROOTS tool we have created to send a pre-written message.
https://freeroots.com/go/make-yamhill-county-safe-for-gun-owners

One by one we hope to see the counties stand up to the tyranny coming from Salem and your brief note can help.

Thank you.
