The Death Of The Gun Lobby

Today, in numerous places, a story by Associated Press reporter, Jonathan Cooper, appeared about the “turning tide” of gun control. Some quotes follow:

“It’s long been conventional wisdom that fighting for gun control is a good way to end a politician’s career.But advocates of tighter gun laws are pointing to a pair of victories in the Pacific Northwest as evidence that the tide may be shifting.”

“We are seeing it again and again, that this is actually a winning issue and you can vote to protect the American public and make the American public safe, and your political career will flourish,” said John Fein­blatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety, an advocacy group backed by millions from billionaire Michael Bloomberg, the former New York mayor.

One might conclude that the end is near for supporters of the Second Amendment, especially when coupled with some other quotes from Willamette Week and Rolling Stone Magazine .

From a Willamette Week cover:

“Oregon gun lobbyists know they must change their ways or become a dying breed” and “…state gun lobbyists are finding themselves on the defensive”

In the same story, they quote a local NRA lobbyist:

“After last week, he sees tougher times ahead. ‘This is my most difficult session” he says. “We’ve never had these outside forces before.”

Another gun lobbyist is quoted as saying  “It’s become painfully clear we’re not going to win the public relations battle.”

In a separate Willamette Week edition with the headline “Under Fire…The NRA is taking hits from foes and friends alike.” they state:

“Not long ago the National Rifle Association was arguably the most powerful lobby on Capitol Hill, but lately it just doesn’t seem to be able to strike fear into the hearts of politicians.”

“For the NRA ,the political terrain is changing all too radically. For decades the organization has successfully blocked even modest gun control laws. But now the climate of fear and intimidation it created is crumbling and gun control groups are talking optimistically about chances for bans on semi-automatic assault weapons and gun possession by minors.” “In fact, legal scholars have repeatedly pointed out that the (2nd) amendment contains no substantial barriers to federal, state or local gun control laws.”

A Rolling Stone article reported:

“But despite the enduring pathology of gun worship, it’s clear to everyone, even the NRA-that the political ground is shifting in the most gun glutted nation on earth. New Jersey, Connecticut, Minnesota and Virginia all enacted gun control legislation this year.” This was followed by :

“Campaigning in New Jersey…in October, Hillary Clinton said “We’ve got the gun lobby and the NRA on the run.”

It would certainly seem that supporters of gun rights are losing their battles and our best days are behind us.

Except consider this, the first set of quotes from Willamette Week are from an article published in April of 1999!

The second set were published in February of 1994!

The Rolling Stone quotes are from December of 1993!

The fact is, that while Oregon suffered a serious setback in 2015 with the passage of a bill paid for by a New York billionaire, the reports of the demise of the pro-gun forces are, to say the least, premature.

The AP article linked above said: “Last year in Washington, voters overwhelmingly supported mandatory background checks on private gun sales. Lawmakers in Oregon approved similar legislation this year, and last week it became clear there wouldn’t be political consequences.”

Of course what the author left out is that, much like in Oregon, Washington’s law is largely ignored and unenforced, and to suggest that Oregon’s law comes with “no political consequence” simply ignores what we pointed out to the writer; the fact that most counties have expressed opposition to the law and several counties, including both in Prozanski’s district, have said they will not enforce it. Sheriff’s all over the state have stated the law is pointless, probably not constitutional and will not be enforced by them.  It’s pretty hard to not see that as a “political consequence.”

Most of the rest of the country is moving towards more pro-gun legislation.  The Oregon legislature’s hard left rudder to attack the rights of Oregonians is hardly the last word in this matter. Remember, not a single Republican voted for SB 941, and while left wing extremists control the legislature right now, the pendulum always swings. Look at this article from 2006.

The fact is, that while Oregon liberals did succumb to the dollars waved under their noses, it came at enormous expense to them and, while they can claim victory for the bill’s passage, it will have little impact on people’s behavior.

In spite of what the lapdog media says, pro-gun forces are not going away.

Kate Brown Appointee Refuses To Certify Recall Signatures

The Oregon Secretary of State has refused to qualify the Floyd Prozanski recall for a vote.

The recall committee turned in over 10,000 signatures. 8415 signatures were required.

According to a story in the Eugene Register Guard, “Two separate statistical samplings done Friday by the state Elections Division found the recall failed to meet the required 84 percent verification rate, however. One sampling estimated there were 8,208 valid signatures, the other 8,062, the Elections Division said.”

In a prepared statement, Prozanski said Friday that he was “grateful” for his constituents’ “continued support.”

The Secretary of State said the recall fell short by about 200 votes. This is almost exactly the number of signatures that the recall committee held back from gun stores that had been the target of a complaint by the Bloomberg funded opponents of the campaign. Bloomberg’s people would go into locations that had signature sheets available and attempt to ensnare the gun store personnel into making technical violations like stepping away from the signature sheets momentarily. They then filed specious and false complaints with the Secretary of State accusing volunteers of felonies.

They also interfered with gathering efforts on the part of paid signature gatherers. It’s interesting to note that a complaint filed by the recall campaign against the Bloomberg flunkies has so far been ignored by the same Secretary of State who refused to certify the recall, the same anti-gun Secretary who was appointed by an anti-gun governor, who herself was not elected to the job.

Needless to say, Prozanski and the Bloomberg cabal have claimed that this is a “victory” for gun control. However, nowhere do they mention the over 10,000 people who sought to have Prozanski removed from office, nor do they mention that the commissioners in both counties that Prozanski’s Senate District spans have passed resolutions against enforcing Prozanski’s anti right’s bill.

Ironically, in the failed complaint filed by Bloomberg’s lackeys, they included a photograph of a signature sheet that was on the counter of one of the shops targeted for harassment. The last signature visible on the sheet seeking to oust Prozanski belonged to the sheriff of one of the counties in his district!

How much Bloomberg spent to disrupt the campaign is unknown since they do not report those figures although the recall campaign is required to.

In a press release, Pam Duffy, who was the chief petitioner said “The fact that we got so close sends a strong message to arrogant, out of touch politicians like Prozanski that the people are energized enough to act, especially considering 17% of petition signers were Democrats and another 15% were non affiliated voters.We are considering all of our options to appeal the official results or the possibility of a recount”.

This recall was a tremendous effort against enormous odds. It faced the limitless funds of a New York billionaire and the reprehensible tactics of his followers. Even so, it collected over 10,000 signatures and scared the pants off those who simultaneously belittled it as having no chance and then spent vast sums to defeat it. Much was learned and future efforts will have the knowledge gained in this campaign to do an even more efficient job. We still face the real problem that the votes are counted by people with a big stake in the outcome, but the campaign accomplished more than the establishment ever thought it could. Our sincere thanks to everyone who supported this very important battle.

Another Victory!

The effort to recall anti-rights extremist, Floyd Prozanski, had another victory today.

The Secretary of State dismissed, at least temporarily, a specious complaint filed by Bloomberg stooges.

The complainants are part of the well funded New York machine that has been working overtime to undermine the rights of Oregonians in exchange for a paycheck from ex New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg.

Bloomberg sent his hired hacks into locations that had recall petitions where they attempted to trick petition gatherers into making minor, technical mistakes (like walking away from petition sheets for a moment) so they could file complaints against the recall campaign.

Today, in spite of Bloomberg’s millions, the Secretary of State said:

“After a review of the information submitted, the Elections Division has insufficient evidence to indicate a violation of election law for the signature allegations outlined above.”

The anti-rights fringe has an unlimited checkbook thanks to Bloomberg, but they have not been able to spend enough to crush the spirit of Oregonians who have stood against the tide of the leftists that are trying to steal every right Oregonians and Americans cherish.

We have a long way to go and we may not have an official count of signatures on the recall campaign until Monday. But for every one of you who has signed or contributed to this effort, we thank you. We have come much farther than the establishment ever thought we could.

Prozanski Recall Turns In Signatures

Yesterday, the Recall Floyd Prozanski Campaign turned in the last of over 10,000 signatures to the Secretary of State.

The required number to force a vote on removing Prozanski from office is 8415.

Prozanski’s record of protecting rapists and felons while enabling illegal aliens, coupled with his outrageous attacks on the rights and privacy of gun owners, was enough to convince many people in his district that he simply has to go.

It is now up to the Secretary of State to “validate” the signatures. Given that our current, unelected, Secretary of State is a hard core leftist who was chosen by an anti-gun, unelected governor and that the billionaire-backed, anti-gun groups have poured in vast amounts of money and resources into attacking this campaign, this will be the hardest part.

The recall campaign lost many valuable signatures as a result of the harassment and attacks by Bloomberg backed flunkies who filed specious complaints after attempting to trick volunteers into making minor technical mistakes in the signature gathering process.

Even when all those signatures were removed, the campaign was able to collect many more signatures than needed.

This has been an unprecedented effort. Many, many people worked extremely hard to get this done. To all those people we extend our most sincere gratitude. Many of you gave generously to this very expensive campaign. We simply could not have provided all the help we did to the recall effort without your generosity.  To you we also say, “Thank you, you made it happen.” (Not a single other “gun rights organization” contributed a dime or so much as an email. Even the Republican Party refused to support this critical battle.)

Prozanski is only one of many deceitful haters of liberty in our legislature. If he is successfully removed from office, it will only be a first step. But to have simply gotten this far sends a powerful message about how strongly Oregonians feel about their liberty. No matter what happens now (and the count is up to an official who opposes our rights) you have shown Prozanski and his fellow travelers that they are not stealing our rights without a fight, and that we will never stop protecting our liberty. Never.

RESISTANCE TO 941 GROWS

If you are unfortunate enough to have a TV, you have no doubt been hammered with Bloomberg purchased ads promoting the Prozanski/Hoyle gun registration law.

The ad features a former Portland Police Chief (and Bloomberg shill) spewing lies before a background of soft-focus child actors playing in a park.

Since the chief sponsors of the bill (Prozanski and Hoyle) are shameless liars, why shouldn’t the ad be a collection of lies?

But why would they feel the need to dump millions into ads for a bill they have already passed? Is it because they are fearful that as people start finding out exactly how bad this bill is there will be a backlash?

Well there is a backlash and it’s been building.

Today we received a new county resolution opposing SB 941.  Douglas County has added itself to the growing list of Counties and Sheriffs going on record against SB 941.  Of course, the liars who supported this attack on your rights continue to claim that almost 90% of Oregonians are eager to have their privacy invaded, their safety compromised and their property tracked for future confiscation.  (Except Val Hoyle who recently dropped the number to “almost 80%”.)

With most counties on record opposing 941 and some saying they simply will not enforce it, it must be getting harder and harder for the Bloomberg stooges to trot out their fiction with a straight face.  But if you have unlimited funds you can at least run an endless series of ads.

With Douglas County on board, and Lane County having also rejected SB 941, bill sponsor and chief gun grabber, Floyd Prozanski is in an uncomfortable position. You see, Prozanski’s district covers parts of both Lane and Douglas Counties. That means that the commissions in both his counties have stood up to his lies and shady maneuvers.  But more importantly, it is those very commissioners who will be choosing Prozanski’s replacement should he lose his recall election.

The Recall Prozanski campaign is going strong and there is still time to sign the petition to send Floyd back to his day job “prosecuting” traffic tickets. If you live in his district, or know people who do, please visit the recall website to sign a petition. And please consider any support you can give OFFPAC to fund this effort.

Meanwhile, in Coos County, pro-rights activists have bypassed their county commission, which refused to stand up for residents, and have placed a pro-Second Amendment ordinance on the ballot for the November election.  This is the kind of action that grass roots activists can take when their elected representatives are too cowardly or too lazy to act on their own.

This battle is far from over. The people are stepping up.  We have a long way to go, but with each passing day the resistance to the tyranny of the Bloomberg flunkies is growing.

Setting The Record Straight On Val Hoyle’s Lies

In an email to her mailing list dated Aug 17th, Val Hoyle made some claims that require a response.

So we are going to address her comments in the order she made them.

Let’s start with this quote:

“Friends, 

In the 2015 legislative session I was proud to sponsor SB 941, requiring background checks on all private gun sales. Despite the fact that almost 80% of Oregonians support this legislation, a number of right wing extremists attempted to recall me from office.”

First it’s interesting to note that Hoyle claims “almost 80% of Oregonians support this legislation.”

During this entire debate, the anti-rights zealots have claimed that “86% to almost 90%” of Oregonians support it, depending on whose stats you were reading. In some cases a single organization would quote different numbers on different places on their website. So it’s telling that Hoyle now claims “almost 80% support it.”  Are the numbers dropping, or is Hoyle, like the rest of her duplicitous fellow travelers, simply pulling numbers out of …the air?

24 County Boards Of  Commissioners opposed this legislation, with many of their members traveling to Salem to testify in opposition. Since its enactment, several have said they won’t spend a dime to enforce it.  Many sheriffs have opposed it saying it served no law enforcement purpose and several have said they won’t enforce it. How this works out to be 80% (or whatever number they are using today) simply defies logic.  But logic means little to people like Hoyle who will tell any lie to achieve what they are paid by out of state billionaires to achieve.

Here is the next quote from Hoyle’s email:

“After losing their recall attempt, these extremists responded by sharing my personal cell phone number with their supporters, which led to a number of rude and aggressive voicemails. Even after being condemned by the Oregonian for this vicious attack, they continued to share my number and support these harassing calls.”

Hoyle is channeling fellow rights basher Floyd Prozanski here. By which we mean, she is simply lying, something she and her cronies do with utter shamelessness.

The “extremists” she refers to was actually one guy in her district who was outraged that she would attack the rights and privacy of gun owners by pushing a bill that most Oregon Sheriffs and County Commissioners opposed, while claiming it was “commonsense” and supported by practically the entire state. The person in question is just a hard working guy who stepped up for others at great personal expense to himself. But the biggest lie of all is when she accuses him of sharing her “personal cell phone number.”  He never shared her cell phone number. She is lying. Period.

Her number was shared by OFF in a alert you can see here. No one, anywhere, including the Hoyle Recall Campaign, and OFF, (neither of which are associated with each other except for a small financial donation OFF made to the campaign) EVER “supported” harassing calls. That is a bold, repulsive lie.

The Val Hoyle Recall Committee didn’t give out her number. But Hoyle, like all the gun grabbers in Oregon, never, ever let’s the truth get in the way of a fundraising campaign. To people like Hoyle, lying is simply more profitable than telling the truth.

And while it’s clear that Hoyle orchestrated the Oregonian article with the willing sycophant who authored it, it’s quite a stretch to say the Oregonian “condemned” anything. If they do, they should do it on their editorial page as the Gazette Times of Corvallis did. But more on that in a minute.

So let’s now move on to the next quote in Hoyle’s shameless grab for money in her bid for Secretary of State:

“That’s where you come in!

A number of my supporters are standing by me and fighting back by pledging to donate $25 dollars for every harassing phone call that I receive!

Join these individuals and let the Oregon Firearms Federation know that their bullying tactics won’t work and that you support background checks by clicking here and donating $25 today!

This is where things get truly pathetic.

First, Hoyle is obviously hoping that her supporters are idiots. If they are going to donate $25.00 for every “harassing” phone call Hoyle gets, she clearly has a massive incentive to simply invent the number of calls she is getting like she invented the number of people who support her dangerous, privacy invading bill. But on the other hand, Val Hoyle supporters are clearly suckers, so maybe she is on to something. If we were going to raise funds that way we’d go about it more honestly. We’d say, “For a donation of $25.00 we’ll send you Val Hoyle’s cell phone number. For $50.00 we’ll send you Hoyle’s number and personal email address.”

Which brings us to the next issue.

Hoyle is so upset that people have her number that she got a flunky on the payroll of the Oregonian to write a story about it. But there are so many things wrong with Hoyle’s outrage.

First of all, Val Hoyle is an elected official. She not only answers to the people who voted for her (people who may have been conned by the NRA endorsement she received through skillful deceit) but to all Oregonians who are now saddled with a law she pushed through, that attacks their rights and expands harassment by the State Police ID unit.

So her anger at hearing from voters is totally unjustified. You make laws that hurt people, you don’t get to hide from them.

But the fact the media wants to run away from and Hoyle wants to conceal, is that there was never a time this number should have been treated like it was privileged information. Many people conduct all their business from their cell phones and use them as their primary means of communication.

Hoyle never published a phone number on the legislative website where people could reach her outside of Salem, but she DID provide her number to us.

The fact is, Hoyle called me, Kevin Starrett, during the last election. She called my cell phone, a number I had never given her. I don’t know who she got it from and in fact, prior to her call to me, I had never shared a single word with her.

She was calling while still posing as a pro-gun Democrat asking for help defeating a measure being bankrolled by…Michael Bloomberg. The Measure was Measure 90. This would have changed Oregon’s voting system to allow for the “top two” vote getters in any election to run for the office.

That was the very first time a single word have ever been exchanged between us.  After taking her (unexpected) call I received the following email from her dated 10.15.14. (Reproduced below as received.)

The link above was part of Hoyle’s email.

As you can see, the email includes her phone number. Nowhere does it say “Cell Phone”. Nowhere does it say “Please don’t share.”

But now, after hearing from the people she stuck it to with her Bloomberg paid for bill, Hoyle is outraged at our “bullying” tactics. And of course, she’s trying to cash in.

Hoyle and her cronies have the full force of Bloomberg’s billions on their side. Even after passing SB 941 with his money, millions are being spent to promote it with deceptive TV ads.  Why spend millions to promote something you already passed? Is it because people are starting to figure out what a scam the bill was?

Even The Gazette-Times, in the article mentioned above, said (just before attacking OFF with a re-report of the misreporting done by the Oregonian)  : “We never have been convinced about the need for the new law, which we believe does nothing to keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have them. In fact, we suspect the main result of the new law will be to create an additional hassle for law-abiding gun owners.”

Hoyle is a fraud and a liar, and now she is using her lies about pro-gun people to pump up her coffers. Imagine what kind of Secretary of State she’ll make.

Anti-Rights Crazies Amp Up Their Attacks

It’s All About “Leverage”

The anti-gun extremists are running scared. Today they filed an election complaint against the  Recall Floyd Prosanzki Campaign.

This is not a surprise. For the last week or so they have had operatives surveilling the locations where the recall petitions are available. These people included  “Makayla Yarbrough,” “Peggy Strickling,” and “Lynda Mc Millan”. At least one of these people was seen getting into a car with out of state plates.

As we told you before, they have also had people at locations where petition gatherers were working, disrupting the efforts of the campaign. 

The great irony of course is this is all being orchestrated by the big bucks “Oregon Democracy Fund.”  Nothing  says “democracy” like doing all you can to interfere with it.

Angela Martin, a paid hack from “Fulcrum Political” sent out a press release today with a list of bogus complaints. In her release she said “Clearly, the gun lobby extremists behind this reckless recall effort have no respect for the law…”

When the anti-rights zealots passed SB 941, they did it against the objections of most Oregon Sheriffs and Counties.  But it’s the “gun lobby extremists” who have “no respect for the law.” A brief review of “Fulcrum Political’s” client list will show you who has no respect for the law. (One of their principles, Mark Wiener, recently worked both sides of the fence in Portland where he brokered a deal with the ride sharing company Uber and the city officials he has taken big checks from.)

The “Oregon Democracy Fund,” in their hilarious press release, said “The nonpartisan Oregon Democracy Fund is organizing the Stop Reckless Recalls coalition to stop this abuse of Oregon’s recall process…”

They call themselves “non-partisan” and then go on to list their supporters: “Organizations including SEIU Local 503, Oregon Construction and Building Trades Council, Stand for Children – Lane County, NARAL Pro-Choice Oregon, Basic Rights Oregon Equality PAC, the Democratic Party of Lane County, Oregon Education Association, Oregon Nurses Association, Everytown for Gun Safety and Americans for Responsible Solutions.”

Yep, clearly “nonpartisan.”

The billionaire anti-rights crowd is burying Oregon in out of state money to continue to erode your 2nd Amendment rights. They are doing all they can to derail the recall efforts. Keep in mind, any election law complaint will be decided by Oregon’s Secretary of State, a hard core leftist who was handpicked with no vote of the people by anti-gun militant Kate Brown, who herself became governor with no vote of the people.

OSP COLLECTING DATA ON GUN SELLERS!

Just a few days before the universal gun owner registration bill kicks in, it appears that the Oregon State Police are planning on collecting data on sellers of guns, not just buyers.

We’ve been telling you all along that SB 941 was never intended to be anything but a vast database of gun owners and now it’s being proven to be all too true.

Starting today, gun dealers are seeing a new interface on their computer screens when they log in to conduct a background check on a gun sale. Now there is a box they can check for “Private Party Through Dealer.”  While not fully functional, it is clear that the Oregon State Police plan to demand, and database, personal information on the seller, or transferor, of the firearm.

As of today, if a dealer checks the “Private Party Through Dealer” box they cannot actually enter the personal info of the seller, but they do get an error message  saying “Alert!!!Please adjust for the following errors and try again” It then lists all the info “not supplied.” This includes the seller’s name, address, city, state and zip and their phone number.

Nowhere in the Prozanski/ Hoyle bill is any of this data mining authorized.  But hey, if you are creating a gun owner database you want all gun owners, not just people who are receiving guns.

Are the State Police planning on running background checks on the sellers of guns too?  Are they going to send out a trooper if the seller  fails a “background check?”  What’s next?

This is a very disturbing development and one that proves once again what the true intent of this bill was.

Be warned, every transfer under SB 941 will become a vehicle to harass and intimidate gun owners.  It’s only going to get worse from here.

Bloomberg Shills Scout Oregon Gun Store

Mike Bloomberg has hired a Washington DC PR firm to film “public service” announcements touting the new universal gun owner registration law.

The stores are being scouted by Kathleen Lopez of “Oregon Production”  (503.780.2767) the PR firm is Devine Mulvey Longabaugh, a hard left propaganda machine that includes amongst its clients, “Mayors Against Illegal Guns.”

The producer of the hit pieces is Scott Turner, (202-520-7580) scott@dmlmessage.com 

They are offering to pay gun dealers $1500.00 to shoot in their stores. As you might expect, they are concealing who is paying for these ads, but make no mistake, it is Bloomberg.

They approached Northwest Armory  and  Wild Bill’s in Molalla but were rebuffed when it was discovered who they really worked for.

Please share this information with your friends and any gun dealers you know. We don’t want any Oregon gun dealers to be duped by these people.

McMinnville Bans Loaded Carry

On Tuesday, with very little fanfare or attention, the City Council of McMinnville unanimously passed a pointless and unenforceable ban on loaded carry.

In an email to OFF, the McMinnville City Attorney said “We discussed that our police officers could not walk up to someone openly carrying and demand that they show whether the gun was loaded or not unless there were (sic) probable cause.  We discussed that, if someone wanted to, s/he could simply keep walking and not engage with an officer at all.”

She also said “While I would not say there’s been an “issue” with people carrying in our parks, I would say that the incidents are increasing and that interest in the subject is increasing.” She  added “Police Chief Matt Scales was present at the meeting and stated that he supported the ordinance restricting the open carrying of loaded firearms in public places.  He said he believes it’s the City’s duty to ensure that public places are safe for children and adults to enjoy without the fear of someone openly carrying a loaded weapon.”

CHL holders are not affected and non chl holders can open carry if unloaded. And police have no authority to determine if guns are loaded or not. So really, what was the point?

It seems McMinnville is hoping to become the new “go to” location for open carry protesters.

We Must Be Doing Something Right

Neal Knox once famously said, “If you’re taking flak you must be over the target.”  Well, we must be over the target folks.

With over a month left before signatures have to be turned in, the Recall Prozanski campaign is out performing expectations. So, as you can imagine, the nanny staters are out in force doing everything they can to interfere with, harass, and tamper with signature gathering efforts.

The Oregon Citizens to Recall Senator Floyd Prozanski have issued a formal election law complaint against the “Oregon Democracy Fund” and the Lane County Fair for their efforts to block and harass people who are alerting voters to Prozanski’s twisted record of supporting felons and rapists and attacking law abiding gun owners.

Pam Duffy, the Chief Petitioner for the Prozanski recall, said in a press release ” Our circulators were illegally harassed by employees of the Oregon Democracy Fund at the Lane County Fair, stopping them from gathering signatures on our recall petition. That clearly violates established Oregon law and we want the Secretary of State to investigate and fine them for each person they stopped from signing our petition.”

The complaint also alleges that Lane County Fair employees illegally stopped recall petition circulators from canvassing inside the fairgrounds and even confiscated the circulators’ clipboards and petitions while they were inside the fairgrounds. Looks like Floyd’s enablers hate the First Amendment as much as the Second. While the signature gatherers lost many valuable signatures as a result of the petty harassment from the women of the “Oregon Democracy Fund” it also proves that these freedom haters are scared.

In the press release Pam Duffy said “We are discussing our legal options beyond making the election law complaint as we believe that the individual employees of the fair and the Oregon Democracy Fund are personally liable.”

Clearly the gun grabbers are on the run. We still have work to do to make this recall successful. But we are making great progress. We want to thank our friends at the Recall Chuck Riley campaign who donated the balance of their PAC account to our efforts.  This battle is costly but we are closing in.

We have no doubts Prozanski’s minions will be amping up their efforts to harass the recall campaign. Kate Brown’s Disgraceful Exploitation

When Kate Brown slithered into the Governor’s office in the wake of the disgraced John Kitzhaber, she stated the gun control was going to be one of her top priorities.  Brown has followed through with that promise signing into law the worst attack on gun rights in Oregon history, SB 941.

Of course, while she and other radical leftists in our legislature continue to focus on destroying our rights, Oregon continues to be at the bottom of almost all metrics. We are at the bottom of the barrel in employment, education, taxes, and business opportunities.  But Brown has sunk even lower than we expected.

Yesterday, Brown, letting no crisis go to waste, sent out a press release stating that, at the “request” of Barrack Obama, she was ordering state flags to be flown at half staff “in honor of the victims of the Chattanooga shootings.”

It is pathetic that our Governor did not order this on her own, instead waiting for the “request” of a President who responds immediately when a criminal is killed by police but is AWOL when American Servicemen die.  It is outrageous that she refers to these killings as “shootings” instead of murders. But Brown could not resist using this act of war to promote her anti-gun jihad.

In the release, Brown says “It is becoming all too frequent that we mourn lives lost to gun violence within the borders of our country”

Not “terrorism.”  Not murderous attacks on disarmed US Military personnel. “Gun violence,” as if a rifle drove itself to two separate locations and gunned down innocent people on its own.

Brown’s disgraceful exploitation of the deaths of our servicemen is yet another example of the extreme agenda of the anti-gun Democrats in power in Oregon. It is shameful and unacceptable.

Your exploitation of the deaths of US Servicemen in Chattanooga to promote your anti-gun agenda is disgraceful and embarrassing.  Why did it take an order from Obama for you to request that our state flags be flown at half staff? Why have you not taken steps to ensure the safety of recruiters and other military personnel in Oregon? And how dare you blame this vicious act of war on “gun violence.”  Would you have called the Boston Marathon bombing an act of “pressure cooker violence?”

Your actions in this case are an embarrassment to all Oregonians and a slap in the face of the men and women who serve in our armed forces. As a resident of Oregon, I demand that you support arming military recruiting center personnel.

More Embarrassing Numbers And Another Sheriff Says No

The latest numbers are in from the State Police, and they once again prove what a massive fraud the background check system is and how much worse things will get when SB 941’s firearms transfer provisions kick in in early August.

While 129 transactions were denied in June (including 95 “felons”, 13 people actively “wanted”and 5 adjudicated mentally ill) the number of arrests was a bit smaller.

Of those 13 people actually “wanted” at the time of their denial exactly 1 was arrested. Of the 5 mentally ill people and 95 felons, the number of arrests was a whopping … zero.

So once again, we see the sham that the anti-gunners numbers are.  Virtually no one is prevented from getting a firearm because of background checks. They are just diverted from that gun at that time and place. But soon this ridiculous system is going to be used against you for transfers that now don’t require the failed intervention of the Oregon State Police.  Keep in mind, the OSP still has a policy of taking a trooper off patrol for every firearm’s transfer denial. What a tragic waste of scarce resources.

Maybe because this system is proving itself each day to be a joke (the shooter in the Charleston murders passed a background check) more and more sheriffs are making it clear they will not enforce the new registration, universal background check bill.

Last Saturday at a firearms event sponsored by the Josephine County Republicans with Rich Wyatt, the new Sheriff of the County stated unequivocally that neither he nor his deputies would enforce SB 941. Sheriff Dave Daniel called SB 941 a “waste of time” and a “travesty.”

We will keep working to expose the fraud that SB 941 is. The fight is not over.

What Will They Screw Up Next?

We hope you had a happy Independence Day.

The Legislative session is just about over with one gun bill left in play.

SB 315 passed out of the House on Friday after a peculiar floor debate with discussion of House Rep Brian Clem’s suspension from high school for...bringing a handgun on a field trip.

The bill was first passed with only one Republican vote, House Rep Julie Parrish. Then later, after the bill was passed, three Republicans abandoned ship and joined the anti-gun Democrats by changing their votes from “no” to “yes.”

They were John Davis, Andy Olsen and Vic Gilliam.

As you know, 315 started as a bill dealing with the transfer of used gun sales records. (All used gun sales conducted by Oregon dealers must be registered with the local police.)  But in the aftermath of the universal gun owner registration bill, (SB 941) 315 was gut and stuffed with language changing SB 941.

This was done by House Rep Brian Clem. He claimed that he traded his vote in favor of universal registration for “concessions” he got from the House Speaker and Senator Floyd Prozanski. However it was not until the day he was supposed to carry the new bill on the floor that he actually read it and realized his “concessions” made the bill far worse. So he asked that it be sent to the House Rules Committee to be “fixed.”

While the “fix” removed some of the more outrageous provisions of 315 (like the one that said if you “loaned” a firearm to a friend and that gun was stolen and used by someone else in a crime, YOU went to jail) the “fix” is still a mess that solves nothing. For example, you may now “loan” a firearm to someone “known to you” for up to 7 days. You still have to conduct a background check but under this bill you can do it yourself directly with the State Police instead of going to a gun dealer.  Big deal.

Here is what the bill does not address:

  • What happens if the gun is not returned in 7 days?
  • Must there be a background check to return the gun? 
  • Can the person who “borrowed” the gun lend it to someone else?
  • Does the loaner have to keep the required paperwork after the firearm is returned?
  • Do you have to contact the State Police when the gun is returned?

These are just some of many questions left unanswered and placing gun owners at risk as a result of this poorly thought out and hastily crafted legislation.

Clearly, Brian Clem was sold a bill of goods. Judging by his demeanor on the floor during discussion of the bill, Clem now knows this. This is what you get when you make a “deal” with Speaker Kotek and Floyd Prozanksi.

The latest version of this messy bill must now be agreed to by the Senate. There is no telling what will happen there. But it will be soon.

Yamhill Says No To Prozanski and Hoyle

Today, as the worst legislative session for gun rights in Oregon history slowly grinds towards a conclusion, the Yamhill County Commissioners signed Resolution 15-7-2-1.

This resolution states that Yamhill County will expend no county resources to enforce SB 941, the liberty smashing, gun registration bill. Once again, the lies told by Prozanski and Hoyle are being exposed.

Our sincere gratitude is extended to the courageous commissioners who joined their colleagues in Linn and Lane County to stand up to the tyranny of the Democrats in Salem.

With each passing day it becomes more clear how dangerous and unworkable 941 is. Thank you to everyone who contacted the commissioners and thank you to all the sheriffs who have publicly opposed this senseless attack on our rights and privacy and vowed not to enforce it.
