Gun Bill Scheduled for First Day of Session
HB 4145 will be heard on the first day of the 2026 session—Monday, Feb 2 at 3 p.m.—in Hearing Room B in the Capitol. This will be a meeting of the House Judiciary Committee.
We told you about this latest attack on your rights in this post earlier today.
As we noted in the previous post, this bill doubles the time you must wait to receive a “permit” to attempt to purchase a firearm and jacks up all fees. This dramatic increase in fees is no doubt another example of Oregon’s Democrats’ compassion for low‑income Oregonians—people most likely to live in high‑crime areas.
The bill also provides sweetheart exemptions to the permit requirements and magazine bans for retired law‑enforcement officers. Under this bill, former probation officers and others will have rights that ordinary citizens may no longer exercise.
Clearly the Democrats want to move this bill as quickly as possible so they can get on with the important business of raising taxes and interfering with federal police.

The Democrats have announced their plans to kick the Republicans in the teeth again by moving up the date for a vote on their failed tax measure. This bill is a kick in the teeth to every law‑abiding gun owner who will receive second‑class citizen status because they are not retired police.
The vice chair of the committee is Republican Kim Wallan. You may recall that in the last election Wallan endorsed far‑left candidate Tobias Read for Secretary of State.
