Ground Breaking Case Headed To US Supreme Court

As you know, the US Supreme Court has finally agreed to take up a case on whether or not our most common firearms are protected under the Constitution.
The case is “Viramontes v. Cook County”.
Oral arguments are scheduled to take place during the fall of the 2026–2027 Supreme Court term (which opens October 5, 2026). An exact calendar date for the argument session has not yet been announced.
Clearly, this will be a landmark decision for the future of gun rights in Oregon, but will also have an immediate impact on nearby states that have bans on conventional firearms like Washington and California.
While recent Supreme Court decisions have been ignored by lower courts, such as the one which heard our lawsuit against Measure 114, a decision that states that modern semi-automatic firearms are protected nationwide would be a massive victory. It is also likely that a positive ruling would have a ripple effect on bans of standard magazines, such as the one in Oregon’s pending Measure 114.
We are happy to inform you that the Oregon Firearms Educational Foundation is part of a coalition of gun rights organizations that have submitted an amicus brief in the case.
