With Portland firmly under the control of violent anarchists (with the full approval of Oregon’s House Speaker)Oregon Democrats are moving full speed ahead on their plans to prevent non criminals from defending themselves.

House Bill 2543, which will allow the Oregon State Police to deny a firearm’s transfer forever, with no explanation or justification, is now a step closer to becoming law.

The bill is scheduled for a “work session” on March 23 at 1PM in the House Judiciary Committee.

Work sessions are where bills are amended and voted out of committee onto the House Floor.  Currently there are no amendments to the bill and the Republicans on the committee have exactly nothing to say about its progress.

House Republicans voluntarily gave up any leverage they might have had when they tacitly agreed to rules that would fine them $500.00 a day for exercising their right not to participate in this assault on your rights and common sense.

As with all anti-gun bills, testimony on HB 2543 was overwhelmingly against the bill.  This clearly convinced the Democrats to move it forward.

If this bill passes,  the one small, rarely used, safeguard Oregonians had when the State Police simply did not do their job will be stripped way. And as Oregon, and our cities in particular, become ever more perilous, law abiding Oregonians who failed to plan well in advance will be at the mercy of the mobs that rule the streets. (Current law allows a dealer to transfer a firearm after three business days if the OSP does not complete, or even start, a background check.)

While House Republicans can still walk away from this freak show, they have shown no inclination to do so, instead whining about the fines they agreed to.

Of course, with a virus so deadly and widespread that our Capitol has to be locked down and boarded up to keep our elected representatives safe from us, the unwashed masses, it would seem the House Republicans still could have understandable concerns about their health and call in sick. But at this point it appears they would prefer to watch the state dissolve into a morass of leftist insanity.

There is still time for the Republicans put your future and the future of your kids ahead of their personal comfort. If you live in a district with a Republican House Rep, please call or email them and remind them what you hired them to do.  Remind them that every single one of them who walked out last time got reelected. We call that a “clue.”

Gun Grabbers Double Down

Today the House Committee on Health Care heard HB2510, a bill to hold gun owners liable for the violent crimes of thieves.

As expected, the deck was strongly stacked in favor of gun grabbers and the technical failures that have become the hallmark of Oregon Legislative hearings seemed to occur almost exclusively when opponents of the bill were attempting to testify.

One of the strangest testimonies came from a Washington County Commissioner Pam Treece who supported the bill because she had been attacked by a rapist with a gun, the implication being that violent rapists are dissuaded by trigger lock laws.

The usual suspects trotted out the usual disproven cliches. One supporter of eliminating self defense claimed to be a teacher who, in an effort to demonstrate that gun owners don’t understand the 2nd Amendment, made the laughable and ignorant assertion that the word “regulate”  in that amendment referred to guns. (Another reason to want to keep your kids out of schools.)

A long time anti-rights activist testified against the bill because it did not punish gun owners harshly enough.

Meanwhile, Oregon Senate Democrats have doubled down and introduced a rule change to punish Senate Republicans should they refuse to participate in these attacks.

The rule would fine any Senator who walked away from this dangerous charade $151.00 every day they were not present to help the Democrats ram through dangerous and rights destroying legislation.

This rule could be voted on as early as next week.

If the Senate Republicans are on the floor when this rule is voted on, their ability to stop any outrageous legislation will be effectively ended. It’s not complicated.

House Republicans already made this mistake and were on the floor when a similar rule was passed in that chamber.  That is now being used as an excuse for their unwillingness to walk out.

If the Senate Republicans make the same mistake, there will be nothing to prevent the Democrats from ramming through extreme restrictions on gun rights along with a vast host of other demented ideas like banning diesel fuel and legalizing pimping.

So now, the future of gun rights in Oregon is in the hands of one person. That is Senate Republican Leader Fred Girod.  Girod has made no secret of his reluctance to stand up to the Democrats and lead a walkout even though other Republican Senators are determined to fight back.

It is imperative that he hear from you loud and clear.  Tell Fred that if the Republicans are on the floor for a vote on the rule change by the Democrats, you understand that he just handed your rights away to the far left.

Gun Lock Down Reminder

Reminder. Lock Up Bill Coming.

As we told you, HB 2510, a bill to require you to lock up your firearms and hold you liable if they are stolen and used in a crime, is scheduled for a hearing this Thursday, March 11.

The hearing will be held by the House Health Committee because now your desire to be able to protect yourself from sky rocketing crime is a “health crisis.”

The bill makes you liable for crimes committed by someone you have lawfully transferred a gun to for two years after the transfer unless you can somehow prove you transferred the gun with a trigger lock installed, two years after the transfer!

Under the bill, it will be unlawful to have a gun in your home if it is not inaccessible, if one of your upstairs windows is unlocked or one of your children is home.

If you lock the gun with an easily defeated trigger or cable lock, and it’s POSSIBLE to defeat the lock, you will be in violation.

We need not explain how truly demented this is.

For a preview of what to expect on Thursday, tune into the Health Care Committee tomorrow for an “Informational Hearing” (invited testimony only of course)  on “Gun Violence: a Public Health Crisis”.

We are going to go way out on a limb here and predict the deck will be stacked. The “informational” part of the hearing is scheduled for 3.35 but the committee can change that time whenever they want with no advanced warning. The invitees have not yet been made public.*

This bill is sheer lunacy at a time when Oregon is seeing unprecedented spikes in violent crime and a complete inability of police to address it. Meanwhile, looters and rioters are routinely being returned to our streets and facing no prosecutions.

Endless Delay Bill Scheduled For Additional Hearing

HB 2543, the “endless delay” bill is scheduled for an additional hearing on March 4th at 1pm in the House Judiciary Committee.

As we have told you, this bill will allow the State Police to deny a firearms purchase forever, with no justification and no consequences.

The Oregon State Police have testified that there are background checks that were requested last year that they have not even started to process.

This bill is designed to create one more roadblock to lawful firearm’s purchases.  If you want to submit testimony in opposition to the bill, the legislature has made it as complicated as possible. So to save time we have included links and information on how to do this.

Making Gun Owners Felons Bill Moves Forward

Democrats Pass Go To Library Go To Prison Bill Out Of Committee

 

Today the Democrats passed SB 554, the “go to the library go to prison” bill, out of committee on a party line vote.

The bill was amended with the “dash 10” amendment.

That amendment removes parking garages from the places where a CHL holder can be arrested for having a lawfully carried firearm. It changes the language in the bill, so while in the original bill you could be charged with a felony just by being near an airport, now you would have to go into the terminal to face felony charges.

Senator Floyd Prozanski claimed that this change addressed the “misinformation” that was being spread about the original bill and the risk of being arrested near the airport. In fact, once again, Prozanski was using his typical misdirection because that is exactly what the bill did.

Before you think that exempting parking lots is a step forward, consider that under the amended bill you would be forced to leave an unprotected firearm in your car, and now be totally defenseless in locations that are known crime magnets. Needless to say, anyone using the mass transit Democrats like to push, is totally out of luck. We won’t even get into those who travel by electric scooter.

And of course, you still face felony charges should you dare to enter an airport terminal to assist someone coming from or going to a flight or entering any school or public building. Buildings you own and pay for.

Throughout the hearing Democrats made totally unsubstantiated claims and reference to reports that they implied backed up the notion that CHL holders are dangerous, while either not providing any data or by referencing reports that were created  by rabid anti-gunners like Tom Ridge.

Senator James Manning’s bizarre and incoherent comments included insults against CHL holders, the completely unfounded claim that a person who shot up a Eugene school was a CHL holder* and the absurd assertion that most CHL holders approved of having their rights taken away under this bill.  Manning might want to take a moment out of his abrasive and ignorant slams on CHL holders to look at the sign up sheet for testimony on the bill.

* Since this alert was posted we have received a copy of a newspaper article stating that the shooter in this event had a CHL. We have no way of confirming this since CHL records are not public and under most circumstances cannot be revealed. However, even if the story is accurate, it’s clear that the proposed legislation would have had no effect on the incident and Manning’s blanket condemnation of CHL holders is still outrageous. To those who think this should disqualify CHL holders from being armed, please click here.

Senate Democrats put out this press release also insulting CHL holders.

Prozanski wrapped up the work session by accusing the Republicans of voting no on the bill because they would “profit” from voting no.

This twisted and insulting comment was based on an email that the “Leadership Fund” a Republican PAC, sent out.  The email fundraiser included these comments:

Senate Bill 554 is one of the most dangerous pieces of legislation introduced by Liberal Democrats to make its way to the Senate in years.

 If passed, this bill will:

 Ban concealed carry permit owners from bringing a firearm on public property

Double the cost to apply and renew your concealed handgun license AND

Ban the possession of pepper spray and stun guns

 Have the Democrats been on vacation? What makes them think this is a GOOD IDEA with all the violence and looting we’ve seen in the last year?

 Oregon Republicans have had enough – that’s why we’re taking action.

Oddly the email noted that the “action” the Republicans wanted to take was a “petition” to the Democrats.  While totally pointless, “petitions” are a common device in fundraising efforts. But anyone who knows the three Republicans on the Judiciary Committee, (Kim Thatcher, Dennis Linthicum and Dallas Heard) knows that they are totally committed to gun rights and that Prozanski’s attack was self serving garbage.

Which brings us to our next step.  This bill now goes to the floor. The Senate is controlled by a super majority of Democrats, many of whom are sponsors of this bill.

Up until today the Republican Leadership had not expressed any interest in walking out to stop these dangerous bills. Then today they denied quorum to stop progress on Democrat legislation.

They have NOT included gun bills in their reason for the walk out.

Rest assured, if this bill passes CHL holders will face felony charges at every school, library and bus shelter, and the fact that for 30 years CHL holders have demonstrated themselves to be the most law-abiding Oregonians won’t matter.

The Democrats have shown by this, and so many other bills, that they are determined to attack law abiding gun owners while empowering rioters, looters and common criminals.

If the Senate Republicans allow this bill to pass on the Senate floor, law abiding gun owners, and in fact all Oregonians, will be at greater risk whenever they leave their homes.  And while people who live in parts of the state with rational local leaders may choose not to impose these regulations, people travel. Today’s quorum refusal was a good first step.

The ball is now in the court of the Senate Republicans.  Oregonians have turned out in mass to oppose this bill. Most of them were not even allowed to voice that opposition.

Please contact the Oregon Senate Republicans and Senator Brian Boquist, who recently left the Republican Party to become an independent, and remind them that your freedom and safety is in their hands.  Ask them to walk out on any vote on SB 554.

Let’s Turn The Tables.

Tomorrow, the Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on SB 554, a bill to strip law abiding citizens of their rights to self defense virtually anywhere.

If the bill passes out of committee as expected, we will have to do all we can to fight it on the floor of the Senate, and tomorrow we’ll provide you with an update on that battle.

Right now however, I’d like to ask you to help our friends in Yamhill County where tomorrow they will be considering a Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance to protect not only residents of Yamhill, but anyone who visits there.

Fashioned after successful ordinances in other counties, their SASO simply says that the county will not spend money or police manpower arresting law abiding gun owners whose only crime is being the target of leftists in Portland.

Drive Near A Library, Become A Felon

Today the Senate Judiciary Committee took 4 hours of testimony on SB 554, a bill designed to turn 300,000 law abiding Oregonians into felons so that Ginny Burdick can leave the Senate happy.

We need not reiterate just how sick this concept is.

As expected, Multnomah County Sheriff Mike Reese did the bidding of his overlord, anti-gun billionaire Mike Bloomberg, and testified in favor of this bizarre and hate filled legislation.

But, as was noted by one opponent of the bill, he inadvertently and ignorantly made a case against the bill when he pointed out the many places where police response times are dangerously long.

The anti rights crowd trotted out the usual collection of nonsensical positions citing “statistics and studies” they never produced. It’s interesting to note that the same people who are determined to make parents felons for having the means to protect their kids at schools are determined to outlaw school resource officers.

A look at this year’s Democrat legislation makes it clear that 2021 is the year that Oregon Democrats have chosen to empower and enrich criminals while attacking the rights of the law abiding.

The opponents of the bill vastly outnumbered those in support. And it will come as no surprise that most of them were not able to testify.

And that’s not including the untold number who cannot even try to participate because of effects of fire and power outages.  The Democrats continue to try to crush Oregonian’s rights with no concern that so many are locked out of the process.

That’s how we roll in Kate Brown’s Oregon.  But to all of you who did manage to navigate the labyrinth and make your voices heard, we are deeply in your debt.

You did the job of great patriots.

The bill is now fast tracked for a “work session” on Thursday Feb 25th at 8am even though hundreds of people who wanted to voice their opposition were silenced.

Chairman Floyd Prozanski made it clear that he is not concerned that so many were cut out and plans to move this bill as fast as possible. Democrat legislators love to tell people they can still “upload written testimony” not mentioning how difficult and failure prone that process could be or the fact that they don’t read them.

So now, unless Republican leadership makes some bold moves, this bill will be voted on and possibly amended in committee on Thursday in spite of overwhelming opposition. From there it will be sent to the Senate floor where the majority support it.

The one Democrat who can easily put a stop to this disgrace is Senate President Peter Courtney. 

You have done so much. Now as we are getting close to the wire we ask that you call and email Courtney and demand he stop 554 and the demented damage it will do.

First Anti Gun Hearing and New Anti-gun Bills Coming Up.

The House Judiciary Committee heard testimony on HB 2543 today. We had the usual collection of “angry women demanding action” all of whom misrepresented the facts and continued the fantasy that punishing the law abiding would prevent killers from killing.

As expected, Multnomah County Sheriff Mike Reese was there to earn his pay as a mouthpiece for Mike Bloomberg and testified in favor of preventing good people from buying guns.

The Oregon State Police also testified but were neutral on the bill. What was NOT neutral were the statistics they provided which prove beyond the slightest doubt that gun owners are getting the shaft by the background check system.

Another hearing for this bill will be scheduled for those who, once again, were prevented from testifying by the technical glitches in the “new and improved” remote testimony system being praised by Oregon Democrats.

On the other side of the virtual building the Senate Judiciary Committee has announced a hearing for yet another anti-rights bill.

SB 585 is scheduled for a hearing on Feb 24th in Senate Judiciary.

SB 585 should not be confused with SB 554 which is scheduled for a hearing on Feb 22nd with a “work session” scheduled for Feb 25th.

Unlike SB 554, which only places thousands of “public buildings,” and airports off limits to gun owners, SB 585 will place entire cities and counties off limits to gun owners.

SB 554 repeals Oregon’s “pre-emption” statute which limits the creation of anti-gun laws to the state legislature. Under SB 554, any locality will be able to write whatever gun laws they like.

Ban on concealed carry?  Check.

Ban on modern semi-autos? Check.

Permits to purchase firearms and ammo?  Check and check.

This bill has been the dream of anti-rights crazy Ginny Burdick from the moment preemption was passed years ago after Multnomah County banned modern rifles.

With gang violence out of control in Portland, and a mayor who is not only radically anti-gun but also an invertebrate who condones mob violence, you don’t need much imagination to visualize what’s going to happen to gun owners in Portland, and in fact all of Multnomah County if this passes.

There is no time to let up the pressure. While gun owners are being assaulted on many fronts, the most immediate battles (at least as of this very minute) will be fought in the Senate Judiciary Committee next week.

There are three strong pro gun allies on that committee.  Senators Kim Thatcher, Dallas Heard and Dennis Linthicum. They are outnumbered and no doubt being bombarded with hate from the anti-gun cabal.  A simple note of support to each would make a difference. Just, “thanks for standing up for my gun rights, never give up” is all it would take.

Personal notes and phone calls to legislators are always the best option. But, let’s face it. Many of our friends and supporters don’t even have electricity right now, so we understand how limited your options are.  Not only are you cut out of the legislative process, but taking action is so much harder. So if nothing else, please make use of this great tool to remind Republican leaders that they do NOT have to participate in the complete elimination of your rights:

As we warned, SB 554 is now scheduled for a hearing on Feb 22.

This bill will make you a felon if you travel near an airport and have a firearm, even if you are a concealed handgun license holder.

There are no exceptions and you do NOT have to enter the terminal or even leave your car.

If you pick up a friend or family member and just drive near the terminal or parking lots you can be sent to prison.

But wait, there’s more. The bill will also make you a felon if you go near any loosely defined “public building” that has declared itself a self defense free zone.

We are not making this up.  The bill also doubles the cost of a concealed handgun license, but you really won’t need one if this bill passes because it won’t be good in too many places.

The shortcomings of the “new and improved” remote hearing system means that there will be very tight limits on who gets to testify. So it is essential that you sign up as soon as possible to express your opposition to this insanity. Now would be a good time.

Public testimony will be limited to 3 minutes per person. The committee will hear testimony at its regular scheduled time from 8:00 am to 9:45 am, then recess until 5:30 pm and continue to hear testimony until 7:30 pm.

We Are Running Out Of Time


WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME.

Oregon gun owners are running out of time and options.  We are not going to sugar coat things. The Oregon Democrats plan to use their supermajority to ram through extreme, dangerous, and vindictive restrictions on your right to self defense. And their plans are moving forward very quickly.

There will be no negotiating. There will be no reasoning with the party in power.  They have made it clear that the facts don’t matter. They want to disarm you and and no amount of thoughtful persuasion is going to change anything. It is just that simple.

So, while in normal times we might suggest you contact the sponsors of these dangerous attacks on your rights and safety, we can say with some confidence that it really would not matter.

That means there is one option. The Republican members of the legislature, which you helped elect with your generous PAC donations, MUST walk out.

We can assure you that we have explored every possible option and discussed this with Oregon’s most pro-gun legislators. If there is some other magic bullet, no one’s brought it up. The Democrats have the power, they have the votes and they are angry and vindictive.

Last session bad legislation was stalled by a walkout by the Senate and House Republicans.  That time they left over a ruinous “cap and trade” bill, mandatory vaccinations and terrible gun bills.

As of right now, the “cap and trade” issue seems to be mostly dormant.  Both Republicans and Democrats are signaling that this year’s mandatory vaccination bill is not moving. (Although NOTHING is certain until the last gavel falls.)

That means that gun owners may very well be the main target of the Oregon’s furious Democrats.  Will Oregon’s Republicans stand up for us as we have for them?

We can’t tell you that the signs are good. Oregon Republicans have been supporting some very bad left wing legislation. It’s anyone’s guess why.

Quite frankly, we see no hope at all if the Republicans stay behind.  If they insist on participating in a game they are guaranteed to lose,  gun rights in Oregon will be a thing of the past. You will be largely prevented from buying guns, you will forbidden from having them with you to protect your family, and what you are still allowed to keep will have to be locked up lest you be jailed for their misuse by others.

This is no longer politics as usual. This is not a disagreement on policy. This is the left’s effort to completely undermine the Second Amendment at the same time they are encouraging the kind of violence and lawlessness that has gripped our state for the last year. As Oregon grows more dangerous, the Oregon Democrats are determined to make you defenseless.

The Oregon Republicans CAN stop this, if they have the will.

As we already told you, a bill to allow the Oregon State Police to deny a firearms transfer forever is scheduled for a hearing on Thursday. (House Bill 2543)

Now we’ve been informed that SB 554 will be heard on Monday, Feb 22. As of the time this alert was sent out, that hearing had not been officially scheduled so it could change, but as of now that is reliable information .

SB 554 will virtually eliminate Oregon’s preemption law and create a minefield of “no-go” zones for gun owners.  The bill allows any loosely defined “public building” to declare itself and nearby property off limits to concealed handgun license holders while in possession of a firearm. Accidentally straying onto one of these properties is a felony.

Airports would now be off limits to CHL holders, and not just inside the terminals. If you drove to an airport to pick up or drop off a friend or family member you would be guilty of a felony if you never got out of your car! The bill would also double the fees for CHL’s which would become mostly useless if this bill passes.

And that’s not all.  We have been informed that in March, the Oregon House plans to hear and pass a bill to require that any firearm you own be kept locked up and useless. That bill, HB 2510, would hold gun owners strictly liable for crimes committed by others who stole their guns. As usual, nothing in this bill addresses the people who steal and misuse guns, only the people whose guns are stolen.

Endless Delay Bill Scheduled

First Anti-gun Bill Scheduled For Hearing

HB 2543 has been scheduled for a hearing on Feb. 18. At 1PM.

2543 will allow the State Police to delay a firearm’s purchase forever even when there is no denial on a background check.

Currently both Oregon and Federal law allow a buyer to take possession of a firearm if the State Police do not issue an approval after 3 business days as long as there has not been an actual denial.

The OSP has a long history of failing to complete background checks and things have only gotten much worse since Covid and the increase in attempted purchases.

The OSP’s “Firearms Instant Check” unit even “cancels” firearms sales that they do not want to bother investigating with no apparent lawful authority to do so.

People who are delayed are faced with the frustration of contacting the OSP “challenge line” only to have their calls ignored or mishandled.

Anyone who has tried to deal with a state agency or collect an unemployment check during the Covid  lockdown knows how easily the state can simply ignore you.

If this bill is passed persons who have no criminal history of any kind will have no recourse if the State Police either mismanage the background check or simply refuse to conduct one.

A person whose safety is in danger can be told by OSP that they are simply out of luck.  We know of “delays” on gun purchases that have gone on for several years. Under this bill gun buyers will be totally at the whim of another failed state agency.

As you know, Oregonians are no longer allowed to testify against legislation in the Capitol. While the Democrat controlled legislature has invented a “process” to testify in writing or “remotely” and pretended that this is a fair replacement, in fact, actually getting your testimony on the record is entirely hit or miss.

Below are the “instructions” for submitting testimony now that you have been locked out of the building. Make sure you are providing testimony for the House Judiciary Committee’s Feb 18th meeting on HB 2543.

If you chose to provide testimony the key arguments against this bill are the long history of bad record keeping by the OSP, the frequent prior restraint on a  right in the absence of any criminal history, the lack of response from OSP when they delay a buyer and the complete lack of recourse for persons wrongfully prevented from purchasing firearms.

Under this bill, a single mom with a stalker who cannot rely on protection from any state agency can be told that she has to wait forever to have the means to protect herself and her children.

The Oregon Democrats are wasting no time starting their assault on your safety.

As you know, the Democrats have locked you out of your building, and in spite of their deceitful lip service to the contrary, effectively silenced your voice in the Capitol.

All reports indicate that the first order of business will be Senate Bill 554.

SB 554 will effectively end concealed handgun licenses while ironically doubling their cost.

Under SB 554, any public building, and the property near it, can (and will) become a no-go zone for CHL holders while lawfully armed. (“Lawfully armed” soon to become an oxymoron.)

The definition of “public building” will be greatly expanded to include airports, any building owned or “controlled” by any city, county or metropolitan service district, any property owned by a college or university and any property near those buildings!

The penalty for being on or near any of these locations will be 5 years in prison and a $125,000.00 fine.

A CHL holder traveling from their home in Hillsboro to the Portland airport to pick up a family member will have committed countless felonies before they even get to the airport.

Under ORS 166.250 it is already technically illegal to go to the airport with a firearm in a locked case that you are intending to travel with if you do not have a CHL.  However, in spite of the lunacy of that statute, people have not been prosecuted when declaring firearms at the airport.

Under SB 554, airports will have the power to  ban even CHL holders, further exposing gun owners to arbitrary prosecutions.

In short, if the Democrats succeed in passing this as the first of many attacks on your rights, a concealed handgun license will become both more expensive and worthless at the same time.

It is telling that the Democrats are attempting to force through this horrendous attack on your rights and common sense at the same time they are ignoring the spike in criminal violence on our city’s streets and applauding the rioting and looting by their Marxist supporters.

Under this scheme, not only will you be subject to prosecution for defending yourself and your loved ones, you’ll be subject to 5 years in prison for simply having the means to defend yourself!

It’s no accident that the Democrats are determined to render you helpless while the thugs who back them are bringing chaos to our streets.

Right now the Democrats have the power to pass ANYTHING they want to pass. That is simple math, and in the current blood thirsty environment in which we live, anyone who has not sworn allegiance to the far left is a target. Make no mistake, Oregon Democrats intend to impose their will on you as swiftly and harshly as they can.

Anti-rights extremist Floyd Prozanski has already announced an early hearing and work session for SB 554. He has been delayed by Senate President Peter Courtney so that the ruling party can move less contentious bills with little opposition and then get to gutting your rights with SB 554. (Just to start.)

For years, your activism has stalled Prozanski and his fellow travelers from imposing much of their hateful agenda. So you can rest assured, embittered by years of defeats, he will stop at nothing to crush your rights.

The outnumbered Republicans have one hand to play. A refusal to go along with this charade.  Like you, Republican legislators have been shut out of the process. They have no means to affect legislation. They have, for all intents and purposes, been silenced.  But, they have demonstrated the ability to stop the onslaught of freedom destroying legislation by refusing to participate.

If the Republicans don’t show up, the show cannot go on. Period.

So there are limited options.

1) The Republicans can do nothing and be steamrolled while your rights and property are stolen.

2) They can extract a guarantee that bad, freedom crushing bills are not heard or they will leave.

3) They can walk out.

We well know the cost to Republicans of options 1 and 3. Walkouts are dangerous, subjecting Republicans to arrest at the hands of Kate Brown’s Oregon State Police.

Democrat leadership has threatened fines and other penalties against anyone daring to take a stand. Anyone who walks will have to leave the state or be prepared for a potentially violent confrontation with law enforcement.  It’s not pretty.

Furthermore, it’s safe to say that currently the Republicans are NOT unified in a desire to confront the leftists. Republican Senator Tim Knopp has repeatedly refused to stand up for Oregonians in the past staying behind to help the Democrats push their attempts at draconian gun restrictions.

Some new legislators have not yet been faced with taking this kind of tough stand, and right now, former Senator Alan Olsen’s seat is open and will be filled by Clackamas County commissioners.

The Chair of the County Clackamas County Commission, Tootie Smith, has demonstrated that she is far more interested in protecting herself than standing up for principle and so her vote cannot be counted on. This means that she may very well vote to appoint someone who will NOT join any walk out.

But, the fact is, that as jeopardous and costly as a walk out would be, the alternative is the beginning of the end for gun rights in the state. It is really quite that simple.

Unless Republican Leaders can extract a written, ironclad guarantee that the many bills the Democrats have introduced to destroy your liberty are not heard, their only option is to leave.

This is not a conclusion we came to ourselves. Our conversations with the strongest members of the Republican Caucus have confirmed this position.

So please take a moment to contact the Oregon Republicans and remind them that as difficult as walking out will be, staying behind guarantees the complete defeat of their avowed principles.

It is truly now or never.

The Gathering Storm

Dear Patriot,

The storm clouds are no longer on the horizon. They are directly overhead.

Our nation’s capitol is now a locked down military installation in which American citizens may no longer travel without passing through heavily armed checkpoints.

Oregon’s Capitol is now fortified with bunker blocks and you are forbidden to enter lest you face State Police in riot gear who will most certainly not welcome you.

The violence on our streets continues unabated.

Our next legislative session is about to begin and the people are forbidden from participating.  While the ruling party has paid lip service to the fantasy that Oregon voters will still have a voice through Zoom calls and submitted testimony that will never be read, the reality is the Democrats can, and will, simply turn off anyone who they deem undesirable, even if those people are elected officials of the other party.

For all intents and purposes, Republicans in the Oregon legislature will have exactly no input into coming legislation. If you live in a district that elected a Republican House or Senate member, you and your concerns no longer exist. Period.

On a national level, the Democrats are ginning up to pass the most dangerous legislation in the history of our Republic. Not only will your gun rights become a thing of the past, the Democrats are working to essentially end America as we know it.

They want to cripple local control of elections, make ultra liberal Washington DC a state, make federal employees paid pole watchers and force you to pay for the political campaigns of candidates who have vowed to crush your liberties. And if that were not enough, they have plans to  destroy organizations like Oregon Firearms with onerous and dangerous new rules to silence us.

Also in the works will be legislation to label as “domestic terrorists” anyone engaged in political activity that the left deems “illegal.” Which clearly could be anything.

Here in Oregon we are facing a list of bills that will make good people felons for engaging in activities that have always been legal.

For example, under SB 396 you will be guilty of a felony for the simple possession of an unfinished firearm receiver. So if you have manufactured a firearm at home, using perfectly legal “80%” lowers, prepare to face felony charges. But you will also be guilty if you have a receiver you have not completed into a firearm.

Under SB 554 and SB 585 not only will the cost of obtaining a concealed handgun license double, but that license could well be useless most places you go.

Have a CHL and go near a school or airport and you will be a felon.

The Democrats have also introduced legislation to force people who have never owned slaves to pay people who never were slaves, allow the governor to seize and control your property and create a program to pay private parties to report transgressions like opening a business against Kate Brown’s rules.

Right now, for better or worse, Oregon Republicans have exactly one card to play. One.

They do not have the votes to stop legislation. They do not have the ability to influence or control legislation. They do not have the power to stand in the way of legislation. Unless they resolve to, once again, walk away from this charade.

What remains of our gun rights, and other rights, was preserved by previous Republican walk outs.   You cannot reason with the ruling party, you cannot bargain with them in good faith. They have no interest in compromise or collaboration. Total, vindictive power is all that they care about. But they need a quorum to force their dangerous mandates through. And that is the one thing the Republicans can deny them.

It is not at all clear that the Republican leadership in the Oregon legislature has the stomach for another walk out.  And who can blame them?  Walk outs are costly and nerve-racking and subject participants to arrest by the State Police who are controlled by Kate Brown.  But walking out is the only bargaining chip left.

Right now the Oregon Senate is in a state of upheaval. Senator Brian Boquist recently quit the Republican Party and is now an independent.  Republican Senator Alan Olsen has resigned and if his seat is not soon filled by Clackamas County Commissioners, Kate Brown gets to pick his replacement.

Clackamas County Chair Tootie Smith has joined with the most radical fringe of left wingers to demand the resignation of newly elected Commissioner Mark Shull, opening the door to have him replaced by a leftist which will increase the risk of the Governor picking  Senator Olsen’s replacement.

We don’t pretend to know what is going to happen. So we recommend you do two things.

First, if you have a Republican House Rep or Senator urge them to stay strong and be willing to walk out.  Remind them that the only House Rep who did NOT get reelected was fake Republican Cheri Helt, and she was the only one who abandoned Oregonians and stayed behind to collude with the Democrats. While one Republican Senator failed to get reelected a new Republican Senator took control of a formally Democrat seat.

The reality is, the people recognized and rewarded Republicans who had the courage to take a stand.

Second, if the Senate and House Republicans don’t take a stand recognize the risks we face. A felony charge for having a piece of plastic or aluminum. A felony charge for picking up a loved one at college or the airport. A mandate that your firearms be kept locked and useless. A requirement that you ask the Sheriff  for permission to simply buy a firearm and then only after time consuming and costly “training”, if the Sheriff even decides to grant you that “permission.”

Take stock of your personal situation. Do not wait to acquire any items that may soon become even harder (or more dangerous) to acquire.

We learned from the treacherous actions of Facebook, Twitter, Amazon, and Apple how quickly people can be silenced. Things happen fast.  Any preparations you make now will serve you well no matter what happens. But given the current state of our country it would be wise to prepare for the worst.

Biden/Harris have promised to come after you. The Democrats in Oregon have done the same. Assume they are (for once) telling the truth.

2021 Anti Gun Bills Announced

The Oregon Legislature has announced the first of the firearms bills for 2021.

You can view them here.

The links will take you to a page with all the information about the bills including the bill language, sponsors, and amendments as they become available.  It will also provide the bill history as it moves through the legislature and upcoming actions as they are scheduled.

When hearings are scheduled these links will also contain “meeting materials” such as uploaded testimony.

Here is a quick run down on the anti-gun bills.

HB 2510 is another mandatory lock up your guns bill. Basically a rehash of what the Democrats tried to force through last time.

HB 2543 eliminates the protection gun buyers have if the State Police can’t or won’t complete a background check. If they don’t complete the check you cannot buy a gun.

Sb 396 prohibits “undetectable firearms”. This is the Democrats hamfisted attempt to ban “ghost guns” “constructed or produced, including through a three-dimensional printing process, entirely of nonmetal substances”.  The bill also redefines “unfinished frames and receivers “ as actual firearms and requires they be treated as such for possession and transfer.

SB 554 allows localities, schools, and airports to ban CHL holders from their property and any location near their property.The bill increases the fee for a CHL from $50 to $100.00 and renewals to $75.00. If you pick up a family member from the airport you can be charged with a Class C felony if you have a firearm even with a CHL. ( Obviously this applies only if you are carrying a gun.)

SB 585 repeals Oregon’s preemption law allowing any locality to create and enforce any gun law they choose.

SB 604 requires a permit to purchase firearms. The bill requires mandatory training, background checks, and fees. The bill requires safety training from the “National Firearms Association”. (Not a misprint) The permit must be renewed every 5 years.

As you know, pursuant to the rules imposed by the House Speaker and the Senate President, you will no longer be permitted to testify against these bills in the Capitol building. Remote testimony during the interim sessions was mostly a failure and people who signed up to testify often could not. Republican legislators who had comments that the chairs of the committees disagreed with were shut off. Do not expect to be treated differently.

So what does all this mean?  The Democrats still have a super majority. They do not need a single Republican vote to pass any of these bills, and except for the permit to purchase bill, they have been trying to pass all this stuff for years. So they are determined. They are also blood thirsty and vindictive. The only reason some of this did not get passed last session was because the Republicans walked out.  We have no way of knowing if they will again. Walking out is very costly and subjects Republicans to arrest.

For the last year the State Police and Sheriffs have used covid as an excuse to either not do their jobs (conducting background checks and issuing CHL’s) or to do them very badly.

As we have learned, nothing in the law compels sheriffs to accept CHL applications and nothing in the permit-to-purchase law compels them to accept applications to purchase.

While the law does require the State Police to provide an estimate of time it will take them to complete a background check for a current firearms purchase, they frequently ignore that law and face no liability for doing so.  There is little reason to believe that these same practices will not apply to the permit-to-purchase law.

It is impossible for us to predict if the Democrats will be more successful eliminating your rights this session than they have in past. (The Democrats in the US Congress are also introducing an avalanche of anti-gun bills.) But it would be prudent to consider it likely and if you plan to own any firearms in the future, and you can find them, maybe now would be the time to acquire them. The same is true if you are considering an “unfinished” receiver purchase.

The session officially begins on Jan, 19th.
