ATTACKS ON GUN RIGHTS ADVANCING
05.06.2025
SB 243 is now scheduled for both a public hearing and a work session.
The “public hearing” is scheduled for May 12th and the “work session” is scheduled for May 14th. Both are scheduled for 1PM.
SB 243 is the bill that imposes yet another “waiting period”, bans “rapid fire activators,” and greatly expands the zones where criminals can be assured they will not meet any armed resistance.
The bill is in the Senate Committee on Rules.
This bill is pure harassment as are all the anti-gun bills. It is designed to punish law abiding gun owners and reward criminals.
The waiting period alone is an indication of the mindless hatred Oregon Democrats have for people who own firearms. Remember, this “waiting period” will be added onto all the possibly endless delays caused by the implementation of MZ 114, either by the courts or through new pending legislation.

If you are planning to testify in person or remotely please note that amendments may be introduced that change elements of the bill so you will want to be prepared to testify about them.
This link will take you to the committee page on the bill. Notice the tab at the top that says “Meeting Materials” That’s where amendments should be posted.
Lately the Democrats have been making every effort to keep this kind of information from the public until the very last minute. As you can imagine, their friends seem to get this info early on.
As these bills move forward, it is becoming increasingly clear that the people in power are not interested in the public’s opinions. While it is worthwhile to get your testimony on the record, we are still waiting to see any sign from the Republicans that they are going to stand up to these abuses. At this point they seem more interested in advertising them.
