ANTI GUN BILL DELAYED

ANTI-GUN BILL DELAYED. STILL TIME TO TAKE ACTION.

02.23.2026
HB 4145, Jason Kropf’s latest anti-gun bill, was delayed again today after House Republicans walked off the floor and stopped the session.

The walkout came after a vote to accept the resignation of Kropf from the “Conduct Committee.”

Kropf is also the chair of the House Judiciary Committee which had passed out HB 4145 after Kropf strong- armed Democrat House Rep Thủy Tran to change her vote from “no” to “yes” so the bill could pass.

These kind of bullying tactics are nothing out of the ordinary for Democrats. Tina Kotek was famous for it and Kropf will never be the man Kotek is. But this time the recipient of the arm twisting admitted to the press that she felt that Kropf had created a “hostile work environment.”  However, she also said she stood by her vote.

It’s important to remember that Tran is not only an elected official, ( a far left elected official) she is a successful business owner and a Lieutenant Colonel in the Oregon Air National Guard.  But somehow she caved when Kropf, no one’s idea of a tough guy, “mansplained” to her that she had to change her vote. Apparently the patriarchy is alive and well in Salem.  Let’s hope Tran is never in combat.

The arm twisting did create some hard feelings among the Democrats, and Kropf was “resigned” today from the “Conduct Committee” which would hear any complaint against him. This required a vote on the House floor and after that was taken the House Republicans walked out.

ADDENDUM. House Rep Tran was NOT on the floor today. If she is not on the floor for a vote on HB4145, her absence will count as a “no” vote, but she won’t have to face any accountability.

Meanwhile the Senate was hearing SB 1599, Kotek’s bill to move the election date for the referendum to kill her tax bill.   The Republican Senators used several procedural moves to slow down the process, and long speeches were made, but in the end the bill passed. Since it is understood that this bill must be signed by the Governor by the 25th, it is not clear why the Senate Republicans didn’t just walk out, since a day or two of delay could very well mean the bill is dead.  But it does appear that the walkout by the House Republicans could be a tactic to slow down and hopefully stop SB 1599, which still has to pass on the House side.

Whatever the motives, the walkout by the House Republicans prevented a vote on HB 4145 today. We expect it to be on the schedule every day until there is a quorum and a vote.  Please contact the House and Senate Republican Leaders and tell them you expect them to use every procedural tool they have to kill HB 4145 just as they are doing for SB 1599.
