A Crack In The Wall

House Rep Paul Evans has long been a supporter of new restrictions of the 2nd Amendment. Before he even served in the House he was writing anti-gun articles for far-left websites.
Most recently he has promoted a ban on the sales of most firearms to young adults.
So you can imagine our surprise when today, in a lengthy online post describing his recent health problems, he wrote the following:
“While I am aware – and empathetic – of the background factors likely motivating the advocates, sponsors, and supporters of HB 3075, HB 3076, and SB 243, I am adamantly opposed to all three. Demanding a 3-day “waiting period” after passing a background check is nothing more or less than theft of liberty. Who would support a 3-day waiting period for the purchase of an automobile, the delivery of alcohol or a gummy, or for an appointment providing reproductive care?”
Evans went on to say:
“Other bills expand the scale and scope of Ballot Measure 114. Defined as a “technical fix” to the challenges inherent to that poorly written (and barely passed) ballot measure, HB 3075 is both an attack on disadvantaged Oregonians and a statement of either indifference or outright hostility to all of us who served in the US Military. That bill is not a technical fix but rather a Trojan Horse. HB 3076 is truly an unapologetic proposal effectively monopolizing the sale of firearms; it will effectively result in fewer places and people selling firearms because of duplicative, unneeded bureaucracy. The fervor advancing these measures has caused me to earnestly reconsider my party affiliation.”
Make no mistake, Evans is no friend to gun owners. Evans demonstrated his outright hostility to rural Oregonians with a recent bill to cut off funds to any county did not sign a “loyalty pledge” to Salem with a promise they would not secede. And while his bill as written would have cut off some funds he announced in an earlier email that he wanted to amend it to cut off all funds.
”If the federal budget situation worsens, I fully intend to amend the bill to include all funding, ensuring that counties wishing secession would receive lowest priority funding for services they apparently want to be delivered by another state or territory.”
Rural Oregonians being especially reliant on access to firearms, the Democrats war on guns made Evan’s comments all the more vindictive and hateful. But, whether Evans is serious or this is just the recognition that the Democrats are attempting to ram through extreme and damaging bills that most Oregonians oppose and he is concerned about his future, it is a sign that the magnitude of the destruction the Democrats are attempting is taking a toll.
None of these awful bills have passed yet. The amount of independent testimony against them is overwhelming.
Evans may have seen the writing on the wall should this nonsense become law. Now would be a good time to contact Democrat Leadership and remind them that what they are attempting will be remembered and not in a positive way.
