Notes:
Application can be mailed or picked up. No appointment
needed for turn in. Do not need references for renewal.
Background check and mental health check. She said mental
health check is included in background check. As long
as you keep address current with them they will send
you a notice for a renewal within 30 days of expiration
and you just bring in your license and they take another
picture, you pay the fee and you're done.
Note,
as of 4/28/03, their application allowed references
from Lane County residents only. We pointed out to them
that Oregon law does NOT require that. They claimed
it was a "county" requirement. Be advised,
they have NO authority to make this demand.
ANOTHER
NOTE! As of 5/16/03, we have been informed
that this policy has been reversed. Representative Pat
Farr of Lane County interceded on behalf of CHL applicants
and the Sheriff informed him that he would no longer
require that references be from Lane County.
STILL ONE MORE NOTE! As of 9/20/04,
the Lane County Sheriff's website STILL says that references
MUST be from Lane County. A staffer
told us today that if you have no Lane County references,
they will "work with you." They explained
that they "don't want to spend their time making
long distance calls." Once again. There is NO requirement
in the law for this and CANNOT be enforced.
On 9/21/04
we received an e-mail from Earlene Filley from Lane's
Sheriff's office. It said:
"I'm
very sorry about the confusion.
We do not require the references to be from Lane County,
although we prefer it. Our forms are old and we're trying
to use them up, but we don't require that.
Again, sorry for the confusion"
As of 1/20/08 they are still telling people they must
have Lane County references. This is STILL bogus.
On 11/18/07
we received
a copy of
an e-mail from the Lane County Sheriff's office.It states
that the Lane County Sheriff WILL NOT issue
non resident CHL's.
It is reproduced below:
Our Sheriff
requires a concealed handgun license applicant have
a principal residence in this County. Therefore, we
are unable to
accept an application from you.
