Applications
and renewal forms.
Notes:
(According to Undersheriff
Brian Anderson, in an e-mail we received on Feb. 28th
2005, the Josephine Country Sheriff will no longer accept
checks for CHL fees.)
Pick up application at Sheriff's office. Applications
accepted only on Wednesdays from 1PM to 5PM.
Cost $50 for License and $15 check or money order for
finger prints. As long as you renew within 2 years of
expiration date and your references are still alive
then they just write same in the reference box. Background
check. Can't carry in places where there are "endangered
species." Note, as of October
14th, 2003 Sheriff Daniel
was telling license holders they may not carry on school
grounds. As always, this is NOT true. We have informed
the sheriff that his information is incorrect.
UPDATE:
On Oct 27th 2003 we received the following e-mail from
the Sheriff:
Dear Kevin.
I am a fervent supporter of our rights to bear arms
and will certainly have this information looked into
and corrected. Thanks for your e-mail.

Dear Sheriff Daniels,
It has come to our attention that you have included
a flyer with issued concealed handgun licenses advising
license holders that they may not carry on school grounds.
I have enclosed a .gif of this flyer. The information
you are giving out is incorrect.
Federal law very specifically EXEMPTS license holders
and there is NOTHING in Oregon law that restricts chl
holders from carrying concealed on school property.
Please correct the information you are supplying to
license holders.

Additional
Update. As of 11/22/2006, the CHL page on the Josephine
County Sheriff's webpage contained the following quote
in large red letters:
CAUTION
Possession of a concealed handgun license DOES NOT authorize
you to carry a firearm in a Public Building as defined
in ORS 166.360 (3) or a Federal building or on airport
property. Violation of the Federal Aviation Requirement
(107.21(a)(1) carries a maximum civil penalty of $10,000.
If you are apprehended with a weapon on these premises
your concealed handgun license will be seized and returned
to the Sheriff.
Please be aware, there is NO
LAW prohibiting concealed carry in "public buildings"
or on "airport property" outside the secure
area administered by the TSA.
The information the Sheriff has posted is wrong. We
have contacted the Sheriff and informed him of the errors.
If the incorrect information is corrected we will post
notice here.
As
of 11/29/06 the above incorrect information has been
removed from the Sheriff's website. We appreciate the
correction.
